hii a friend of mine recently lost their childhood home to the australia bushfires. any donation helps, and if you can't donate, please share!! thank u!!

"We are raising funds to support Des and Mel Reaburn-Jenkin after the loss of their family home of 17 years. The house was completely destroyed, along with everything inside it — all possessions, treasured memories of their children growing up, and the life they had built over 25 years of marriage.

They left the fire zone with only the clothes they were wearing, along with their two cats and their much-loved geriatric Labrador. Like so many families in situations like this, they are now facing the overwhelming reality of starting again from nothing.

While they were insured, it is still unclear how far that coverage will extend or how long it will take to be resolved. In the meantime, there are immediate and unavoidable costs for housing, daily essentials, and caring for their animals.

Any contribution, no matter the size, will help relieve some of the financial strain during this incredibly difficult time. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser would also mean a great deal."

For chapter one I quickly ran out of buffer pages so I was uploading once a week between thurs-sat, depending on my work schedule. I’m on break currently as I make more buffer pages for chapter two (I’m hoping to be posting again first week of Feb!), but chapter two will have consistent weekly uploads!

TLDR Honey and the Moon will be back soon and it will be weekly updates, not sure which day of the week yet! But you can get notifs of updates on Webtoon and Tapas, and I update the official site whenever I feel like it because updating a carrd is very tedious haha (someday soon I’ll get an RSS reader set up…)

If you're looking for a good, centralized collection of fundraisers for people and organizations doing on-the-ground work in Minnesota right now, someone on Bluesky put together a great resource hub for things like food support, rent relief, mutual aid, and immigrants' rights centers that I'd really love to see spread around.

And if you're local to the Twin Cities, there's a "Take Action" section with links to ways to get active, as well as some resource guides for legal observers, etc.

Those of us here in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the metro area appreciate every bit of support we can get right now, especially with the federal government cutting off things like SNAP benefits for Minnesotans and threatening further retaliation. Keep us in your thoughts, and maybe pick a cause to support, if you can.

Reblogging to add that the person who put this together has turned it into a full-fledged website, if that's any easier to spread around!

hi!! I found Honey and the Moon recently and I'm in love, your art style is so yummy to look at and I'm so excited for chapter 2! if it's okay to ask, did you go to art school, or are you self taught? How long did it take you to become confident enough in your art skills to start a comic? I'm thinking about making one someday, but I don't think my technical skills are all there yet.

Hii thank u for enjoying the comic so far!!! :D

I took basic art classes in highschool, but outside of that I never went to art school, let alone finish college outside of like, two classes, lol. In middle school I was OBSESSED with Calarts sketchbook tours and fantasized about going to art school for the longest time, but then the pandemic happened, and I ended up losing interest in art school because of the cost and what I was hearing a lot of artists say. For many years I reallyyyy struggled with my decision and felt soo much FOMO towards my peers that went to college and art school, but recently I’ve come to peace and honestly don’t regret my decision anymore. I’m really grateful I had so much free time to explore art on my own terms and get to know myself and what I wanted, and now I feel the most confident in my art I ever have!! It was a tough journey but now I see that art school wasn’t for me, and that’s okay.

In that time I spent four years making personal art with friends, participating in figure drawing sessions, and writing for myself. If you’re curious what art school has to offer, I’d personally recommend seeing what art school attendees have to say, and thinking about what *you* want, and not what you think is required or acceptable for you to do with your OWN life! Art school can be a good experience, but it’s not 100% necessary in my opinion. If anyone’s interested, I don’t want this answer to be TOO long, but I can go in depth of what I’ve learned without art school and what I wish I did differently in a separate post!!

If you want to feel ready to make comics… make comics anyways! Truth is that you will never feel fully ready, there is no *perfect* time, you just need to have passion!! It took me a while to finally start this comic, but beforehand, I made an incomplete “pilot” back in 2020. I did storyboarding for the indie series Bob’s World, I got really into dnd and ttrpgs which taught me a lot about sequential art and finding fun stories with friends. Then I thought about a career path, and got into the idea of pitching a graphic novel. I made test pages which are now superrr outdated, but I learned a lot of skills in the process that I still use now. Yeah I cringe when I look at my old comics, but they’re still REALLY important to my journey and I don’t regret making them!

If you want to improve your technical skills, making comics is a FANTASTIC way to do it. Since making comics I’ve gotten better at colors, lettering, expressions, composition, character design, backgrounds… heck, even networking and building community. if you look at my early ‘25 artwork and then my art now, you’ll see a HUGE improvement, and that’s because I was making a comic! If it’s intimidating, you don’t have to post it. I did my 2020 comic in secret for several months because I wanted to work without eyes on me yet. I look back on my art journey and wish I was making MORE comics, because I probably would’ve improved quicker!

If it helps, looking back on the start of this version of Honey and the Moon, I was ready– but I didn’t feel like it! I was nervous!! It’s an idea I’m super passionate about, and I didn’t want to mess it up. Meanwhile I look back on my old comic, my graphic novel pitch, or my storyboarding attempts… I felt ready in those moments, but I look back like NOO I WASN’T! BUT– I’m so glad I did it anyways. Yeah I have a “failed” comic but nowadays I really don’t care. It was important anyways. Your future self will thank you if you make something.

Comics take a while to make… but you should draw your characters hanging out anyways! Make short comics, make comics in your sketchbook on lunch break, make one page comics… do not let your fear hold you back!! Enjoy the journey and let your ideas evolve alongside you.

Make your art and ideas accessible to yourself. There are no rules!
