We are excited to co-lead Denmark-based Capra Robotics’ new €11.3M Seed round with Supernova Invest. The round will help grow and scale the company’s wide platform of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for numerous applications across a variety of industries. Summiteer and EIFO also participated in the round.

The word “Capra” comes from the Latin meaning “goat.” Of the wild animals of Crete, the wild goat or agrimi (Capra aegagrus) is still found scaling the steep and treacherous ranges of Psiloriti and the White Mountains.

Thus, it is fitting that serial Danish entrepreneurs Niels Jul Jacobsen and Mads Bendt founded Capra Robotics on this idea of rugged, dependable autonomous robots operating both in varied outdoor and indoor conditions and environments. Niels has worked in robotics since 1989, founded Mobile Industrial Robots (MIR) in 2013 and built it into a successful company which ultimately sold to Teradyne in 2018. Niels also helped birth Universal Robots (UR) while overseeing University of Southern Denmark’s robot lab, and was on the board of UR until its exit in 2015. Mads is a successful inventor within the world of electric vehicles, having built a wide portfolio of patents in this industry over his career.

Founded in 2019, Capra has grown quickly to currently 45 people strong, deploying innovative robotic solutions to logistics, inspection, surveillance, and maintenance companies across Europe, U.S., Asia and Australia. Capra’s customers include Lockheed Martin, Bosch, Deutsche Telekom, U.S. Air Force, and VELUX.

The Capra Team

At Promus Ventures, we have been investing in robotics for many years, with our current robotic investments including Chef Robotics, RobCo, Lunar Outpost, Diligent Robotics, and Recycleye just to name a few. One of our first robotic investments over ten years ago was an autonomous mobile robot startup in San Francisco. We continue to be bullish about the future growth and prospects of AMRs operating in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Capra’s mobile robotic platform serves as a versatile and robust foundation for a wide range of applications, including perimeter control, production logistics and urban maintenance, among others. The team has designed its Scout, Carrier and Urban robotic product line for adaptability, integrating advanced sensors, AI-driven navigation, and rugged construction to operate efficiently in unique and challenging environments.

We look forward to partnering with Capra in scaling its robotic platform across the globe. Given the terrific vision and execution of the Capra team, we hope one day they may ultimately achieve Greatest of All Time status in the world of autonomous mobile robotics!
