Therapist Homework

@meiterium1976

trying to not cycle into depression

I'm not in this picture, but someone who was very special to me is.

looking for a sewing pattern

(looking for a sewing pattern so I don't have to figure it out on my own) (finding nothing that works for what I need) "fuck it, I went to art school, I can figure it out"

I made color photocopies of a picture from my wedding (October 6, 2001) I used them to do self inflicted art therapy. this first one says "you left long before I did" the second says "I did not love myself" and the third one says "oh shit pivot" I see these three pieces as a document of my processing the end of my marriage, the first is about his emotional absence from our marriage, the second is about my work on myself and the third is about getting to another level of healing, one wherein I'm working through it in the context of a relationship, as my current romantic interest is also processing the end of his marriage as well and we have a shared joke...if either of us is talking about stuff that was crappy in our respective marriages, we get to a point where we say "pivot!!" it's code for all the things around figuring out you have to leave an unhappy marriage, which takes a lot of time and effort. it's better on the other side. life is too goddamn short to be in an unhappy marriage.

dating while getting a divorce, going to grad school, changing careers, living with my mom and doing deep emotional work / healing

date the guy who gives you skulls on the third date and then three months later wants to take you to the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site, Hyde Park, New York

Do you think the people who design modern sewing machines in plastic cases ever feel insignificant because of it? knowing that they're making machines with the lifespan of a dog when they could (if they'd been born a few generations earlier) be making machines with the lifespan of a Galapagos tortoise?

I said what i said

Do you want to be politically pure in theory or help your neighbor. Is it fruitless to help your neighbor because there's no Perfect Pure way to do it ?

Honestly I would rather be politically pure. Your neighbors would never help you, so why help them?

Youre who this post is talking about. Individualism and elitism is not going to help the revolution and grassroots activism and mutual aid.

When the pandemic hit this old church lady joined our tattooed queer leftist mutual aid group bc her church soup kitchen closed. We shrugged and told her she was welcome as long as she didn't proselytize.

That woman never gendered me right once, but she shut up about Jesus long enough to feed people next to us bc she cared more about action than ideology. She also had a whole network of other church people who helped contribute $ to ingredients. We provided more and better meals together than in our "correct" silos

That's how any of us get out of any of this

Beneath My Hands by Leonard Cohen

Beneath my hands your small breasts are the upturned bellies of breathing fallen sparrows. Wherever you move I hear the sounds of closing wings of falling wings. I am speechless because you have fallen beside me because your eyelashes are the spines of tiny fragile animals. I dread the time when your mouth begins to call me hunter. When you call me close to tell me your body is not beautiful I want to summon the eyes and hidden mouths of stone and light and water to testify against you. I want them to surrender before you the trembling rhyme of your face from their deep caskets. When you call me close to tell me your body is not beautiful I want my body and my hands to be pools for your looking and laughing.

Homework: diagnosis of fictional character: There Will Be Blood

Daniel Plainview is a 60 year old, unmarried, white male. He has a history of a highly competitive and aggressive nature. He has been manipulative with business dealings and will effortlessly lie to others to accomplish his business goals. His only family is an adopted son, who while Daniel seems to have been emotionally close to when his son was a child, becomes distant when his son is older. His son had also sustained a life-changing accident and was rendered deaf at the age of 12, and Daniel was never able to fully accept the implications of his son’s deafness. Additionally, when his son grew up and become involved in the same professional field, Daniel came to see him as a competitor and rejects him emotionally. Daniel freely admits that he used his son as a form of manipulation towards others in business dealings because he wanted to appear a trustworthy “family man”

Daniel also exhibits a deep seated distrust and suspicion and dislike of other people. Saying that he looks at other people and doesn’t see anything worth liking. He also states that he has a “deep completion in me, I want no one else to succeed” His hostility towards his business rivals has led to inappropriate outburst of hostility towards others, including physical altercations.

When felt manipulated himself by a man claiming to be his brother, and who he had opened up to emotionally, Daniel immediate murdered the man, who had posed no threat to him. Later Daniel also murdered another rival after a prolonged session of humiliating that rival verbally.

Daniel currently exhibits signs of heavy alcohol use and is drinking almost continuously during his waking hours. He is socially isolated, living alone with only hired help around him.

Primary Diagnosis:

Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD)DSM-5-TR 301.7 (F60.2)

Daniel meets the criteria for ASPD, which includes:

  • A pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others, occurring since age 15, as indicated by:
  • Deceitfulness (manipulating others, lying for gain)
  • Impulsivity and aggressiveness (physical altercations)
  • Lack of remorse (cold use of others, including his son, and murder without apparent guilt)
  • Evidence of conduct disorder before age 15 is implied by his aggressive, competitive nature and lack of empathy.
  • His behaviors are not exclusively during the course of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Additional (Provisional) Diagnosis:

Alcohol Use Disorder, SevereDSM-5-TR 303.90 (F10.20)

  • Current heavy alcohol use nearly every waking hour.
  • Likely meets multiple criteria: tolerance, withdrawal, unsuccessful attempts to cut down, continued use despite social and occupational impairment, and use in hazardous situations.

Consider Rule-Outs / Differential Diagnoses:

  • Narcissistic Personality Disorder (301.81): Some traits (grandiosity, exploitation of others, lack of empathy) are present, but overall presentation is more consistent with ASPD due to impulsivity, aggression, and overt criminality.
  • Paranoid Personality Disorder (301.0): He exhibits marked distrust and suspicion, but this is better understood as a facet of his antisocial traits rather than a standalone diagnosis.
  • Borderline Personality Disorder (301.83): No evidence of affective instability, abandonment fears, or identity disturbance; unlikely.

Summary:

Daniel Plainview’s presentation is most consistent with:

  • Antisocial Personality Disorder (F60.2)
  • Alcohol Use Disorder, Severe (F10.20)

His pervasive disregard for others, emotional detachment, aggressive manipulation, and recent decline into substance use and isolation paint a clear clinical picture.
