I really think that in-universe, someone needs to be pointing out that there are 3 out gay players in the league and they have 5 Stanley Cups between them. that’s 50% of the last ten Cups won by a queer captain. there needs to be a team management meeting somewhere where someone is brave enough to float the possibility that being gay makes you better at hockey, and maybe that should factor into their hiring decisions.
I’VE BEEN SAYING!!!!!!!! okay here’s my vision. if you are a hockey fan you are probably familiar with the combine aka one of the creepier things the nhl has invented… for those of you who are not this is a pre-draft event that brings all the top prospects (who are all like 17 btw) are together in one place to do intense fitness tests and be weighed/measured/photographed while representatives from each team prowl around observing each sweaty boy’s body and taking careful notes on whether he’s the kind of physical specimen they want in their breeding program on their team. just google ‘sidney crosby nipple clamps combine’ and i bet you’ll find some images you won’t soon forget! anyway as part of the combine teams can interview prospects and some teams (particularly montreal) ask THEE most deranged questions, like this:

it’s truly insane. ANYWAY my vision is that after shane and ilya are outed some execs start doing the math and notice the pattern you have described… they’re not legally allowed to ask players to divulge their sexual orientation but at the combine they DO all start asking questions like “what would be the best way to hypothetically turn a promising young player bisexual, in your opinion” and “imagine you’re in an emotionally messy years-long situationship with another player. how might this impact your on-ice performance” and so on. they’re just asking questions okay. just introducing some scenarios.
If I am complaining about fanfic a lot recently (I am), it’s because I’ve been swept up in the Heated Rivalry super explosion of fanfic and when there is this much new stuff, you get flooded with the things that you can normally just ignore and move past.
I stand by everything I’ve said lmao, it’s just that, man. Yikes. What a world.

I love people writing sub drop and aftercare in fanfiction. What is going on there. Out there writing it like it’s a world ending terror experience to be avoided at all costs.
I know it’s all a jumbled generic fantasy that doesn’t connect with real life but it’s still really funny.
I know too that it’s not supposed to reflect real life, it’s people’s fantasies about being taken care of without having to ask for it, or about crashing out but being given the grace of understanding, of there being a ‘reason’ for it.
But still. The overwrought melodrama of it all is deeply comedic.
Being relevant in this case should be defined as having multiple, or at least one episode dedicated to the character, with actions that can be analysed (e.g.: Caulfield with his plotline with Morris + Szász, and him also being on team Paidion despite having only one full episode to himself)
