Devil's Kith and Kin

@merlinerplatz

hey uhhhhhh its danny time

@/rickybabyboy is literally just animal abuse. it's not cute or funny that the cat is dangerously overweight. stop putting this blog's posts on my dash, it's legitimately distressing that they're killing their pet.

he appears to be somewhere near the "serious risk" category for weight related issues. maybe the cat has a medical issue the owners haven't disclosed that'd explain this, but i sincerely doubt it.

disclaimer on this next part, i don't think money troubles bar you from pet ownership. if you're low income or on hard times, but are able to keep your and your pet's needs met, i don't see a problem. that being said, ricky's owners seem to be in a perpetually unstable situation. they're constantly using their obese cat to gain attention for fundraising posts. it'd be one thing if this were the case when the cat was healthy, but the cat is being abused and the owners don't even seem capable of meeting their own needs, let alone their cat's.

this blog shouldn't be getting nearly as much positive attention as it has.

ricky's owners found this post, went on a pissy rant, spread this to the animal abuse heckin chonkers fandom then blocked me.

you can call me names and rage in my notes. i'm not apologizing or deleting this. the point of this post is to spread awareness to other people that you're abusing your pet. i could not care less about what you think of me.

your cat is relatively short haired. anyone with eyes can see he's really not that fluffy. no respectable veterinarian would say anything about this is fine. what they might have said is that ricky hasn't had problems from his weight yet, not that his weight isn't presenting risk. i do applaud you for cutting down his food. i hope you can get his weight under control and provide a better living situation for your pet.

that's a domestic shorthair, even if his fur was standing on end (i have a domestic shorthair with a "fluffy" coat, fur that stands up instead of lays flat) that wouldn't account for the sheer size of this poor animal.

all domestic felines are highly prone to diabetes, which would be a death sentence for a cat in a low income household, as the treatment to maintain quality of life for a diabetic cat is expensive and lifelong, and not covered by pet insurance unless you had insurance before the condition developed. ricky may not be diabetic yet, but his owner is playing russian roulette with his health.

another lethal health complication specific to male cats is urinary crystals and urinary tract infections. this is common in males due to the long urethra, and becomes much more likely if a cat is overweight. this is a common cause of death in young male cats, as symptoms can go unnoticed until it is too late. the treatment for urinary blockages and infections is also highly expensive.

painful arthritis is inevitable in a cat this size. cats are not people, they do not understand why they are hurting, and physical therapies often prescribed to dogs like aquatherapy are distressing to cats as they tend to be hydrophobic. it is cruel to put a cat at risk of chronic pain and a lowered quality of life for the sake of protecting your own ego as a pet owner.

this cat's owner is in complete control of his diet. they choose how much he eats and they choose what he eats. he did not get this size by accident and he did not maintain this size by accident. it is good his food intake has been reduced but the way the owner responds to the observation that their cat's poor health is being exploited on social media makes me suspicious of whether there really is any intention to provide an appropriate diet for an animal that is wholly dependent on its human caretakers for its health and wellbeing.

Americans very proud of themselves managing to pull off an operation on a crippled third world country. Which makes sense, considering they usually lose to them
