‘Jesus’ comes from a shortening of the Hebrew version of the name Joshua, while ‘Christ’ simply means ‘the anointed one.’ To make this clearer to modern Christians, I propose a new Bible translation where Jesus is referred to only as “oily Josh”
Green sea turtles have been an iconic endangered species since the 1980s, mostly due to bycatch in fishing nets and taking adults and eggs for food. I have core childhood memories of watching Steve Irwin talk about sea turtle conservation in front of a beach full of nesting green sea turtles.
After 45 years of conservation efforts, their population now meets the IUCN criteria for Least Concern rather than Endangered.
For a species with such a slow life history (it takes green sea turtles decades to reach sexual maturity) and a nearly global population, this is a Really Big Deal. This is the kind of long term conservation victory that many of the amazing humans who started working on green sea turtle conservation back in the 80s didn’t live to see.
Just because something isn’t fixed right away doesn’t mean it won’t ever be fixed. Just because the work is slow doesn’t mean it isn’t worth doing.
Sometimes I think about how Bungo Baggins built this wonderful expansive hobbit-hole for him and Belladonna with all these rooms and everything but then they only ever had Bilbo, and then Bilbo inherited it but he never married and only ever had Frodo, and then Frodo inherited it but he lived alone and then it passed into the hands of the Sackville-Bagginses and through Lotho to Saruman and was defiled–but THEN! Frodo takes it back and brings Sam and Rosie and their family in, and then he leaves it to them and they FILL Bag End with all their thirteen children and it becomes the Ancestral Family Home for an entirely new family!! And that’s just enriched by all the inheriting that happened to pass it through these generations of people who loved each other to GET it to Sam!
It’s just…just because you may not know who or what you’re building something for doesn’t mean the building you’ve done is wasted effort.

Sorry to break it to you but you literally have to face your fears and slaughter them. Otherwise you will live a small life that you do not want. You literally have to view your biggest fears and attack them head on. You have to fall into the abyss to find your way out. The easy path does not exist. There is no get out of jail free card. You have to allow yourself to die a spiritual death over and over again in order to reinvent yourself into the person you are actually supposed to be. And you have to be painfully honest with yourself and the people around you. It’s horrible but it’s truly the only way.
According to color theory, brown has more positive connotations than negative. Brown is associated with nature, stability, and warmth. Also a rich neutral tone goes well with most decor.
