Starting off my challenge to make 1 zine every week until march, it’s some of my favourite baby birds!

I’m doing this challenge to try to kick my habit of overthinking and never starting stuff, though I will admit I’m posting this now on my self-appointed deadline day because I spent the whole week overthinking, gotta start somewhere I guess. Once I forced myself to just sit down and just start drawing it only took me an hour which makes me feel a bit silly

It's becoming clearer that sometimes when I say "use your local library" it's taken as "use a public library" and while that is definitely something you should be doing if you can, I'm usually talking about any library that's accessible to you!! Lending libraries, online libraries, school libraries, all of these are important to use as well!! If you have access to them, use them!! "Your local library" means any library that is local to you!

The reason they make you do group project at school is as a preventative measure against falling into conspiracy theories as an adult. The vast majority of the population can and will come out of the experience with a much better understanding of just how goddamn impossible it is to make multiple people do what they were supposed to do, everything they were supposed to do, and nothing but what they were supposed to do. You can't make five people do that, and yet billions of people are keeping this supposed machine rolling?

The caption reads: "Defeated by roses. Near Turin's Lingotto station, along a lonely path, Miss Guida Concetta Rinino, 28 years old, who was bringing a nice bunch of roses to a relative, was accosted by an unknown young man. The young woman, rather than losing heart, defended herself with extraordinary energy, using the bunch of flowers as a weapon. So it was that the scoundrel, his face all scratched up, had to flee. (Drawing by Walter Molino.)"

Incredible. At a distance I understand how the woman might appear to be the abuser and the man the sympathetic victim, but the second you zoom into the man’s face the pink-cheeked rage- not remorse, or rejection, or embarrassment- not heartbreak or despair- but RAGE- the deeper story speaks itself into your suspicions.

And the bit where they’re HER roses? Almost a relief, but also sadder, as she will arrive at whatever event without them, or with them destroyed.

Do you think when the righteous anger and anxiety and annoyance fade, when she arrives at her destination- will her loved ones applaud her? Will she be proud? Will her hands shake? Will she walk home with company from then out, and for how long?

In this moment, she is provoked into anger. Anger is good- it appears strong. But look at his face. Would you put it past him to linger there after dark, in case she returns alone?

What story will HE tell, of ‘I was perfectly polite, but she didn’t even give me a chance- women like that, they’d swoon for a jerk in a heartbeat, but kind and flattering men like me?…”

I love this piece. It paints both stories while illustrating the power dynamics and struggles at play. This should be shown in art classes

[Image description: mobile screenshot taken from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Facebook that is a statement released by the Chief of Standing Rock. The statement reads as follows:

Chairman sitting Bear's statement regarding SRST Public Safety, January 9th, 2026.

I have been receiving reports and evidence of First Nations people being racially targeted, assaulted, and detained by the federal agency Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE). We want to remind our members to be safe and proactive by carrying with you at a minimum your tribal identification cards or a copy of your degree of Indian Blood. Our tribal identification affirms our citizenship and political status.

Our Nation is a sovereign government and our members are not immigrants. We are not subject to immigrant enforcement on our own lands. Any federal activity within our boundaries must recognize and respect our tribal sovereignty, treaty obligations, and established jurisdictional boundaries. Any ICE presence or activity within our lands is not authorized, not welcome, and will be addressed. Unauthorized personnel will be escorted off our lands.

If you are profiled, harassed, or detained, please notify us immediately (701) 854-8529. My staff is working on a "Know Your Rights" information phone line that will be released in the incoming days. Please watch our social media page for further communication.

Again, I strongly advise all First Nations people to carry your tribal information as a practical measure. Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is committed to the protection, dignity, and well-being of our own people and to the continued exercise of our rights and jurisdiction. End image description.]

This red dress was first worn by Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris on the television show 𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒆 in the 1991 fourth-season episode 𝑻𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝑴𝒚 𝑩𝒊𝒌𝒆, 𝑷𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆! One year later, the piece was spotted on Tia Carrere as Cassandra Wong in 𝑾𝒂𝒚𝒏𝒆’𝒔 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅.

While certainly the same design, it’s hard to know whether these were both pulled off the rack or if they are the same exact costume. Because both productions hail from Paramount Studios, the chances of it being the exact same piece are pretty good!
