About Me

I know I kind of did an introduction already, but I’ve seen a bunch of people on here have done actual proper introductions and I thought I should do slightly better than “not a bot, don’t ban me.”

Essentials

  • My name really is Helen
  • I’m 37
  • I’m English (and have always lived in England)
  • I studied Animation at university
  • But I actually work in admin for social services
  • I was diagnosed with depression at 15 and I’ve been in and out of treatment ever since.
  • At some point anxiety was added to that, and then I was diagnosed as autistic when I was 33.
  • I am bisexual, and a disaster.

The Fun Stuff

  • I love art.
  • I love horror movies (even/especially the bad ones). I love monsters and creatures.
  • I’m obsessed with competitive cooking shows (Bake Off!) and other competitive craft shows like the Sewing Bee, Pottery Throwdown, etc.
  • I’ve been playing FFXIV since September 2015 (Nana Hakuuchi on Cerberus). I’m terrible at it 😅
  • Jurassic Park is my favourite film of all time and I’m slightly obsessed with dinosaurs
  • I’ve been gaming since I can remember, and I’m primarily a handheld gamer (Switch & Steam Deck)
  • I generally play J/RPGs, farming sims, and Otome games - I’ve been playing Otome since the PSP.
  • I love reading (fantasy/romance/horror, trying to branch out into sci fi).
  • I love animals, especially cats, and especially especially my chinchilla ❤️
  • I’m a solitary eclectic witch and own too many tarot decks.

You Can Also Find Me

I’ll update this if I think of anything else, it’s always so hard trying to talk about myself 😅

Do you know how weird it feels to casually make future plushie plans and feel like I’m thriving with my art career while ICE is threatening to go door to door for “immigrants” and “criminals” (visibly brown people) and I have to carry proof I’m American with me every time I go out? I say this specifically here because I know it’s a majority white American website. Like I already thought of who I would call and go stay with if I were to be deported lol. I’ve soothed myself with “maybe it wouldn’t be so bad as long as I don’t get shot at or disappear”. And it’s just annoying because my white peers do not have shit like this weighing on their mind, they can choose to just fucking draw

I cannot emphasize how much I’m literally a US citizen who speaks good english (with an accent, but it’s something) and these are the thoughts I’m having. Imagine how it feels when you’re actually an immigrant and you can barely parse what the masked trigger-happy asshole with a gun is screaming at you.

I really, really, want to do a sleepover at the Natural History Museum, but they're so expensive 😞💔

I just feel like sleeping next to dinosaur skeletons and fossils would be a core life experience ❤️

Celestial Crowns is out on Itch.io!

Hello all! I decided to release the game on itch since I don't want to keep everyone waiting for the Steam review. I did submit another build today, so hopefully that one will go through. Thanks for all your support, and backers, you should be receiving your keys today!

sea salt and mangoes

I drew this as a love letter from a mixed kid to my IloIlo heritage- Asin Tibuok is an almost extinct heritage food of the Ilonggo people. Asin Tibuok is salt that is produced by soaking coconut husks in pits near the shore. It’s extremely difficult to make- It takes a week to fill just one coconut husk. This salt is very rare and the tradition of creating this salt perseveres only in specific regions of Visayas, one of the major islands of the archipelago.

In the Philippines, Mangoes are often eaten with salt, and it’s considered a staple Merienda, or an afternoon snack.

Hope this fact encourages people to help us preserve our culture

art history will be like "this is the most revolutionary painting of its time!" and you will look at it and is just a normal painting of a lady sitting under a tree and then an art historian will explain "this is the first time a painting ever used this specific shade of blue which challenged all understood conventions of how to depict light and launched a movement known as auzureism, and also the lady is looking at a sparrow which in its time it was a sign of fierce sexual liberation and it was considered scandalous" and then you find out the painter was expelled from the academy of art of stockholm because of the painting and that the king of sweeden paid three thousand marcs (equivallent to ten million dollars now a days) to have the painting in his room and the painting still looks like a generic painting of a lady under a tree

As someone who's studied art too much...😬😅

Hate it when TikTok farm cosplayers and cottagecore types say stuff like "I'm not going to use modern equipment because my grandmothers could make do without it." Ma'am, your great grandma had eleven children. She would have killed for a slow cooker and a stick blender.

I’ve noticed a sort of implicit belief that people used to do things the hard way in the past because they were tougher or something. In reality, labor-saving devices have historically been adopted by the populace as soon as they were economically feasible. No one stood in front of a smoky fire or a boiling pot of lye soap for hours because they were virtuous, they did it because it was the only way to survive.

Taking these screenshots from Facebook because they make you log in and won't let you copy and paste:

the spirit is willing but the flesh is so fucking out of it rn. actually the flesh would like to pack it up and leave. it's done with the horrors.
