In 2027, the Classic Mega Man series will turn 40 years old, and the 12th mainline installment, Mega Man: Dual Override, will be released to the world.
Currently a contest to design a new robot master for the game is being held, with entries open until January 1, 11:59 PM PST.
From January 30 to February 6, there will be a period where we can vote for the new robot master, and the winner will be chosen by an internal Capcom board from the top 6.
It is for this reason I implore you…
WE NEED TO GET A NEW WOMAN IN THIS GAME
For reasons I cannot fathom, the first and only female boss in this franchise has been Splash Woman in Mega Man 9. That was in 2008, 21 years after the first game’s release, and 2 new mainline games have been released since then with no new women. By Dual Override’s release it will have been 19 years since Mega Man 9!
I don’t blame the 80s and 90s games for having no women bosses, people back then were weird about women in games and especially fighting women in games. But I feel like MM9 should have been a step into the future of Mega Man, where women can be Robot Masters too! But there hasn’t been a new one since. And as a woman enjoyer, I believe it’s time for a change.
