Another underwater Pokemon comic commission (#1: Sapphire VS Kingler, #2: Yellow VS Dragonair), the first one in full color, and my last art commission of 2025, finished just before New Year's Eve!
I was nervous about tackling the color for this—so many different Pokemon, every panel being a complete scene change—so the fact that I was able to figure it out at all, never mind figuring it out this well, really shows how much better I understand color palettes than I did just a few years ago. Light and shadow is still a mystery though, lol.
I had another breakthrough in regards to the line art, as I switched back to traditional inking after 2 1/2 years of inking digitally. The appeal of going digital was that it was so much easier to correct mistakes, but that turned into a temptation nightmare where I just kept redrawing the same lines over and over in search of perfection 😵💫 Inking traditionally was a relief by comparison as I was forced to A) pencil more precisely in the first place (instead of going "oh, I'll fix it on the computer later") and B) just live with whatever lines I put on the page, only carefully applying white-out if I thought an error was really bad.
