Tommy was sent to train army pilots in some secret base because it was that or be arrested for treason and Tommy would prefer not to be arrested.
If he ever has to play 2 Truths and a Lie, he can legitimately say “I flew a spacecraft in Area 51”, except he can’t, because he’s signed a binder as thick as his head of NDA documents and told in no uncertain terms that if he blabs, he dies.
Anyway.
He’s back in LA and they finally gave him back his house keys and he’s finally able to access his own laptop and phone. His inboxes must be overflowing.
And when he turns on his phone, there are a gazillion messages, three quarters of which are from Evan, who knew he had to pay for the helicopter stunt and generously offered to take his place, except the Army wanted the man who performed the evasive maneuvers, and swore Evan to secrecy as well.
Tommy reads all the little snippets of thoughts Evan has had since he was away, the terrible house search, the whale that ate a billionaire (pity the whale didn’t digest the guy, Tommy thinks uncharitably), Athena and Hen going into space, the shaking up of the 118 into a new arrangement, the odd comfort of talking to baby Bobby (he sent pictures and wow is that baby round), Harry training for the academy, Ravi being a rock who is also occasionally exasperated by Evan, and how much Evan misses Tommy.
With a smile, Tommy unlocks his door, kicks off his shoes, and fires off a reply: I’m finally home. Can’t wait to see you.
