BRANDON and WESTMAN AREA EVENTS
Get Ready for Canada Music Week in Brandon this November!
Canada Music Week is a wonderful national celebration of music, bringing students, teachers, and music lovers together from coast to coast. This November, the Brandon and Westman Registered Music Teachers’ Association is excited to continue our annual one-day celebration! The day promises to be inspiring and fun-filled for students, teachers, families, and audiences from across the region—a perfect opportunity to celebrate young musicians, showcase creativity, and enjoy the joy of live music together.
This year, we are especially encouraging students to perform works by Manitoba composers. Many fantastic local compositions remain underperformed, and we believe it’s important to shine a spotlight on the incredible talent in our province. Performing these pieces introduces audiences to fresh, inspiring music while giving students the chance to explore new repertoire and develop their artistic voices. It’s a meaningful way to connect with our region’s rich musical heritage!
Our one-day event will feature both a public concert and an interactive masterclass. Students will have the opportunity to perform on stage, receive expert guidance, and dive into the imagination and emotional depth of each piece. The masterclass is always a favorite—it focuses on interpretation, expression, and storytelling in music. One student shared, “The workshop helped me see my music in a completely new way—I discovered the character behind every note.” These sessions help build confidence and inspire creativity, making every performance more meaningful.
None of this would be possible without the dedication and teamwork of our wonderful executive members. Their careful planning ensures that everything runs smoothly and that every participant feels supported. As adjudicator Dr. Daniel Tselyakov said, “This festival is remarkable—not just for the performances, but for the thoughtful attention given to each student’s growth.” Parents notice the difference too: “It’s amazing to see how motivated and confident my child becomes after participating.”
Even though it’s only one day, the upcoming Canada Music Week event promises a rich mix of learning, performing, and community celebration. From the concert stage to the masterclass discussions, every moment is designed to inspire students and audiences alike.
We can’t wait to welcome everyone to Canada Music Week in Brandon this November! It’s a day to celebrate music, creativity, and the joy of learning—an event that encourages young musicians, highlights Manitoba composers, and brings our community together in a shared love of music.
