rating ratings out of ten out of ten

0/10 - 2/10 overrated and overused.
1/10 - 7/10 strong indication of contempt, decisive.
2/10 - 6/10 slightly weaker statement than the above. less communicatively efficacious.
3/10 - 9/10 requires thought to interpret, negative but measured.
4/10 - 5/10 hard to distinguish from 5 or 6 but the commitment to negative affect is at least clarifying.
5/10 -5/10 its fine.
6/10 - 3/10 as above but like weakly positive, also beginning to veer into,
7/10 - 0/10 total significatory black hole. completely useless as an indication of any opinion whatsoever.
8/10 - 4/10 we are still emerging from the hole 7 blasted in discursivity.
9/10 - 9/10 great!
10/10 - 8/10 bit overused but nice to know a straightforward recommendation when you see one.

TBHX Rewatch - ????/Hero Tower

Episode 20

  • Aw, my favourite piñata returns
  • Nice being handed over to Miss J unceremoniously now they’ve got a new lead on Fear research. Well. It’s more an ultimatum, I suppose. If Nice can prevent the research team from succeeding then he proves his worth. It’s not to the extent that it happened with Yang Cheng but definitely similar in terms of bringing someone down low then giving them an apparent way out so they’re “forced” to go for it. In actuality, they’re being pushed by their own neuroses but–
  • Shang De is in on the whole plan to foil the expedition if it means he can take a shot at MG, hence Nice showing up. I know Micky reassures Shang De that they don’t have to worry about it just being Ghostblade but I really have to wonder how they know that. Like, how could they know Rock would send E-Soul as well? Am I missing something here?
  • “Rock’s father created Zero” hold up what do you mean created. Like, when you say “Rock” and “created” I lowkey presume grooming of some sort is going on but idk if that’s what was meant here
  • Luo Li losing it is really well done. From the implied emotional connection to Big Johnny (direct parallel to Little Johnny when his own dad died) to her shedding her suit in such a way that it’s clear her brain isn’t turned off (she’s still using the suit as a weapon, after all) but that she’s being increasingly reckless
  • The thing I don’t quite get is that it seemed like Micky was baiting Queen to get involved but then why collaborate with Shang De. Why set everything up to try and foil the research and then send someone else in who’d help out the research team? Unless it was more about disrupting it and then using Queen to stop it from getting too out of hand?
  • Gravestone for Luo Tong and Da Xiong. The two main connections we really saw Luo Li with aside from WNN. Her mum is still around but she’s lost any chance of reconciliation with her father and her childhood friend is dead and Wang Nuonuo in a coma with no sign of revival 😔.
  • From the other side of things, Ghostblade also lost his shot at reconciliation
  • Ah, so Queen disrupting the Ruins incident boosted her Trust Value. That’s very cynical engineering on DOS’ part
  • And Nice disrupts the research team and gains Trust from the Ruins incident cover up, but he still ends up under Miss J, which we knew already. Even when he wins, he loses. Getting ever closer to full circle now
  • Thinking again back to Shang De in Lin Ling’s arc saying to Miss J about it being a good idea for Nice to “lay low”. Ultimately, Shang De had finished playing with his toy by that point and wanted him to collect dust in the corner. Miss J’s ambition and her genuinely wanting to manage Nice into the top ten (also seen in her organising the photoshoot in the Smile arc) was counter to what Shang De really cared about by that point
  • And I do lowkey wonder (in a very vague speculative way, to be clear) with the Fear vial, if part of Shang De’s calculation there was that Nice was an acceptable sacrifice if it all went wrong, so long as he took out some of Treeman’s opponents along with him and/or was able to bait out info about X (though that only really works if Smile’s connection to X was known by him). Honestly, Nice dying would also mean he’d take Treeman’s secrets to the grave, so wins all around for Shang De in this scenario. If his failures have compounded enough to make him a liability rather than an asset then it would track. Okay, wild speculation time over.
doing this arc as its own thing then will do dragon boy's arc and I think I'll chuck ahu + x in the same rb chain as each other given they're both only an ep each to be hero x tbhx spoilers mun watches stuff mun watches that hero show

TBHX Rewatch - The Johnnies

Episode 17

  • why is little johnny's mum's design so todoroki....
  • Second spouse in a row telling their hero partner to Escape. This could mean nothing.
  • Between Dragon Boy and Little Johnny, I lowkey wonder if kids born from heroes have different traits prior to getting any Trust of their own. Little Johnny has his cheek dashes and Dragon Boy his tattoo thingies. Then again, I don't know that Wang Nuonuo showed any... different traits? Eh, something to keep an eye out for ig
  • Ah okay, Ah Sheng -> Vortex as X around twenty years prior to the current day. Filling in my gaps in the known Xs
  • "She deceived us all with a smile" oh, I like that line
  • I know that Little Johnny is beholden to Trust Value as a human but I'm curious if Big Johnny gets to basically bypass that or if it's boosted in some way? The fact the Trust/Fear-immune material is from the alien ship means there has to be some link there (edit: 'human' was bad wording, sorry ahu)
  • And we're back to where we left off with Ghostblade's prologue

Episode 18

  • Get Aliened, Vortex. Actually, no, I hate that wording, let's not do that
  • Ghostblade meanwhile like "none of my business" (which, fair.)
  • Something about Vortex being so beaten up and none of those injuries would be a thing if Ah Sheng were there to heal him. Lie in your own grave <- okay so tbf it was Ghostblade ordered to kill Ah Sheng but Vortex still tried to rope Ah Sheng back in not long before his death so I'm assigning some (unfair) blame
  • Okay, so, Ah Sheng was under Shang De (when he was in MG) and Little Johnny under Zac (FOMO) iseeisee
  • The plane crash returns. Vortex dies and Cyan receives her Luck and the chain reaction continues
  • Little Johnny thinking he's a Ghostblade whisperer will never not be funny. Dw about the Ah Sheng thing <3
  • The implications here being that DOS explicitly sanctions the Fear experimentation. Which tbf we knew from Cyan's arc, but that was more about information regarding Fear whereas this is stating it outright. Anyway, seems like they're aware of Shang De's own experimentation and want to keep an eye on it?
  • "I couldn't carry my teammate as support" heh, I hope that's a game metaphor carried over from the cn, because very fitting tbh given we're introduced to present day Johnny playing a video game
  • what is the micky liu zhen deal frfr
  • I feel like I'm possibly missing a layer here in terms of how Micky baited Queen, but it's still so telling that both Micky and Liu Zhen know that's exactly what's happening here. Also, Micky clearly not wanting Queen involved mirroring Luo Tong trying to keep Luo Li from the Ruins. The circumstances are pretty different otherwise but Micky just... kinda... lets it happen rather than interfere with his plans vs. Luo Tong lowkey sabotaging the mission for the sake of Luo Li by trying to stop her from getting involved at first

Episode 19

  • Little Johnny: “Do you think DJ Shindig was also at the dad murder scene?”
  • “[Ghostblade]’s also a cold, emotionless person deep down” wow rood. And also blatantly false but tbf his approach to how he handles his emotions came in handy for once
  • Ghostblade leaving his signature knife marks all over the trees whilst Little Johnny’s like “don’t think about it~”
  • Luo Tong trying to keep Luo Li out of danger despite her suit giving them all a much stronger chance of survival. Hm. Like, I understand why he makes that choice but given he knows they only escaped last time because of Ghostblade he’s got to have an idea of just how dangerous this is. He’s lowkey putting everyone else in danger by his refusal to let Luo Li engage
  • Luo Li giving Wang Nuonuo a gf tracker…
  • You know, in retrospect, ep 18 was quite recappy. I’m getting the sense that this arc is as long as it is at least in part because of the choice to retread events. It’s mostly kept fresh but I think this part was maybe designed to give the animators a bit of a break before kicking back into high gear
  • Rock saying the Commission would basically issue a cover-up of whatever happens on this mission because they’re already involved takes my mind back to the plane crash. Because yeah they’ve got history with this sort of thing. (And, to some extent, everything to do with Zero is also relevant here)
  • Oh to be inside E-Soul’s head during all this
miscounted and missed the last episode from this arc oops. here it is a day later than the rest tbhx
