Slovanská mytológia- hýkal (Slavic mythology- hykal)

Disclaimer- I didn't find any accurate translation of the name of the creature so if you know please let me know

Soo this is a sneak peak at a wip project of mine that I wanted to start slowly posting here as it progresses.

The idea behind it is to combine photography and linocut in a project that is inspired by slavic mythology. Im aiming to portray the mysterious feeling of the folklore tales in the landscape photography and place my (albeit pretty simplistic) reimagination of the different creatures of these stories in said "mythical" places. I want it to feel mysterious and a little bit playful since my relationship to these stories developed in my childhood. This here is just a digital "sketch" of how the finished printing on the photograph might look like

Honestly I have no idea how i feel about this being my first photography related stuff here because its not my best work and also yeah its still in progress. BUT its one of my very first serious individual projects and I am pretty proud of it so far so we'll see i guess. Also the issue with a lot of my stuff is that I photograph a lot of people mostly my friends and family and honestly I don't really want to post their faces online even if i had their permission.

I think people want to replace screen addiction with lots of hobbies/reading/activity because we are used to the overstimulation. and I get it. you have to wean. but toss in some staring at the floor while you're at it. add some quiet nothing time to ur schedule

THIS. EXACTLY. I recently started to finally fight back my severe phone addiction and this is so so so SO important and true. Because yes overcoming constant need for sense stimulation is NOT stimulating your senses, just in a different way, lets be honest. Yes of course its better to knit or read a book instead of doomscrolling for an hour but you NEED to learn how to be bored again. Because being bored and having to come up with literally anything to entertain yourself is exactly what shapes your mind as a kid and I think its really bad we forgot how to do that. So I started doing this thing I call "reclaiming boredom" and its just that I deliberately choose to be bored in situations when I would instantly pull out my phone. I stopped bringing it with myself everytime I go to a different room, and just learn how to deal with not having it on me 24/7. Yes its frustrating as hell and a lot of times I give up and go back for it but honestly the times i follow through, are worth it. Slowly but surely haha 10/10 recommend <3
