Makyou Gaiden Le Deus

This recommendation is only for retro maniacs like me 🤓📼, and since nobody recommended this on the review list, I guess I’m going to be the first to do it 😌. I truly believe every anime is special in its own way, and people obviously enjoy different things, but Ladius definitely belongs in a very “special taste required” category 😂.

Now I finally understand why this anime is truly underrated, and honestly, it deserves to be 😅. I can only recommend this to hardcore retro fans who watch anything old just because it’s old 👴📺.

If you're looking for fun 🎉, entertainment 🍿, or something memorable 🧠… ... you are literally wasting your precious time ⏳, time you could use to watch something far better from that same year.

I wouldn’t call this trash 🚮, but I also wouldn’t call it good 👍. It sits perfectly in the middle, nice story, but poor pacing 🐌, rushed execution 🏃‍♂️💨, and very average animation 🎨. And as someone who has watched many anime from 1987, this one does not compete well with its peers at all.

The villain? Acting like the final boss 😤… only for us to realize he actually had a boss above him 🙄. And that “main boss” shows up for only a few seconds 🤧 like he mistakenly walked into the wrong anime.

The female descendant suddenly becoming hypnotized 🌀 made no sense. We never see how, why, or what triggered it. Was it emotional shock? Magic? Plot holes? We are left wondering 🤨.
Moments like this remind you instantly that the anime was absolutely rushed for no reason.

The animation? Mostly average 🎨, and it feels like they saved all their energy for the final fight scene ⚔️, which, to be fair, actually looked decent.

To my new-gen anime watchers 👶➡️📺: Please stay far away from this. I’m begging you.
This is NOT for you 🚫.
If you watch this early in your anime journey, you might start hating old anime entirely 😭.

This is strictly for retro fans who enjoy watching anything old for the sake of nostalgia 🧓📼.

As a retro maniac who also understands what new-gen viewers expect, here’s my honest conclusion:

Good story idea ⭐, bad pacing 🐢, average animation 🎨, rushed execution 🏃‍♂️ ---recommended ONLY for retro lovers.

In this one we have more of the usual classic eighties plot.
Post apocalyptic earth with few survivors here and there. In some place, we find two sole survivors of a race that are entrusted with a special jewel and obviously powerful that makes the bad ones get mad over them and try to get it at all cost, naturally and usually through sending their subordinates. You know about the rest of the story, more of the same. The animation is good and well suited and definitely breeds 1987 in it. The story though absolutely not impressive, is entertaining, doesn't have plot holes, it's ... straight and you end it thinking that you didn't missed anything.

All in all, an interesting and okay watch for the 80's completist. The rest can avoid.

Is is "Le Deus"? Or is it "Ladius"?

The answer is: Doesn't matter what you call it. Either way, it's pretty bad.

It's like they had a checklist of every cliche of a 1980's anime, and just went down the list. Post apocalyptic world with a mixture of sci-fi and fantasy elements? Check. Giant robots? Check. Viewer-insert hero character that pilots the robot? Check. Cute, loyal sidekick girls that follow viewer-insert hero around? Double-check.

Although, if you jumble a whole bunch of cliches together, ... that does not necessarily make it a bad show. Instead, what makes it bad is the *way* they do it. A pretty ho-hum storyline, rambling and unoriginal. Substandard quality artwork and animation. I mean, given the over-abundance of the same basic fantasy/sci-fi anime that flooded the market during this time, there's plenty other to choose from, instead.
