Akujiki Reijou to Kyouketsu Koushaku

Melphiera Marchalrayd, the daughter of a count, dedicates her time to researching the culinary possibilities of monster meat—a peculiar endeavor started by her late mother. By teaching the people of the Marchalrayd lands to prepare such exotic ingredients, Melphiera hopes to help stave off famine. Unfortunately, her unique tastes and intimate knowledge of monsters have led to her social isolation: few nobles interact with her willingly, disdainfully calling her the "Voracious Villainess."

When a monster attack erupts at a royal banquet—where Melphiera has been sent to find a husband—Aristide Rogier du Galbraith, the younger brother of the crown prince, leaps to her aid. Due to his terrifying skill in slaying monsters, Aristide has earned the title of "Blood-Man Duke." Charmed by Melphiera's fearlessness and intriguing culinary prowess, Aristide soon declares his intent to propose.

Together, Melphiera and Aristide, high society's most eccentric couple, strive to see beyond the cruel rumors and encourage each other's fascination with monsters and the art of preparing them.

This anime was very enjoyable. I wish it had been a little stronger though. The characters were interesting and I loved all the monsters and the premise. The romance was cute too, but sometimes things fell a little flat for me and it felt like the drama could have been up a notch a bit which would have fixed some of the monotonous feeling at times. However, despite its flaws, I ended up invested in the characters and the story to the point I would definitely watch a season two.

If you like monsters and weird girls, you'll probably enjoy this anime. If you want ... a story that feels like the stakes don't drift away a little half way through, then you might get a little bored.

Mixed Feelings

Such potential! But it was wasted on a painfully slow pacing....

It's possible to resume the entire anime in less than 40 words: Noble girl that eats monster meat is saved and proposed to by a Duke - she accepts it and he takes her to his home to introduce her to his people as his fiancée. End of story.

Basically it's 12 episodes that could have fit into 4 episodes. To actually be able to be this slow paced, the anime showed us a ton of background information on each character, and spent waaay too much time on trivial scenes.

About the overall qualities of the anime: ... The animation is great, the characters are great, and it has proper character development. There's a balanced amount of supporting characters and plenty of information about the world and monsters that inhabit it.

I don't know if there will be a next season, but it would be worthwhile to watch if they fixed the pacing issue and started to develop an actual plot based on the main character's adventures, or the noble's reactions to their marriage, or introduced an actual villain.

nothing burger anime… what was the point? at first, i thought the plot was intriguing since it kinda reminded me of a mix between villainess meets dungeon meshi, but then it kept going nowhere. like why were we flying for fo long? i could not tell you any expanded themes or interesting subplots. i was kinda disappointed and somehow pushed to the end instead of dropping it.

i would have liked the romance aspect if it had been expanded upon a little bit more. and the magic and politics could have been so cool… ughhh

i’ve seen people say this easily could have been condensed to ... about 4-6 episodes and i can’t help but agree. definitely, one of the least interesting shows i have sat through. like i said - nothing burger.
