Illegal immigrants, drug and human trafficking, drug cartel war, gringo militia, faith or superstition...the list goes on.

So between Tucson and Trump's unfinished wall is a Mad Max country all around? LOL

You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

Despite already being in danger as illegal immigrants, it seems they also become even bigger targets because they smuggle cocaine. Respect to Coyote and the nameless guy for putting their lives on the line so the girl could escape to 'the land of the free'

This episode feels like 2022/23 War in Ukraine is written all over it? Oh you have alient exoframes? F*ck you, we have drones, 3d printers and FU bombs that can be dropped from it. But was made before that lol, I wonder if Ukraines drone operators saw this and got their inspiration.

M2 Browning 50. cal machine gun made into exo-weapon was a nice touch.

Also mr. not-gringo, maybe wall wasn't finished because illegals could just suddenly walk through it using exoframes.

The ambient soundtrack and amazingly competent storyboarding here is all squandered by the bleeding-heart, overtly tacky attempts at war commentary. The "bad guys", such as the border patrol, are vilified by means no more nuanced than simply framing them as mindless goons; there is no attempt by the writing to empathise with what is presented as the opposing perspective.

Makes it all the more jarring that the script was pioneered by someone who also wrote visual novels I hold in much higher regard. Boiling down the scope of this anime to an ethos as juvenile as "think of kids!" wouldn't be hyperbolic, since the moral scope of the Exoframe conflicts still hasn't evolved beyond such trite appeals to basal emotions.
