I try to center my ratings around a 5 average, kind of like MAL does. It's not 1:1, as I wouldn't say a 4 is "bad," but for all intents and purposes, assume I'm using the MAL scale. Also, I've spent countless hours going back, unrating and re-rating everything, but the sheer volume has gotten to the point that doing it again isn't worth my time. Therefore, even if I rate something a 6 in the moment, it doesn't mean that I don't now value it at a 5 or 7, so it's safe to assume a margin of error of one point. Also, I rank the different seasons within a franchise relative to one another. For example, every season of AoT is a 10 to me; however, I'll rank season 1 lower than season 3, part 2. This way, I can better gauge the quality of each season (like how each season is a separate entry in MAL) than the show as a whole. Ultimately, however, this is purely for my enjoyment. This paragraph is also entirely for my reference, as I assume no one would care enough even to read this.
