List of some rather lengthy comments on selected shows with spoilers (updated 2025 Oct 24):
Lain show: Upon a rewatch, I was disappointed to see that there was less GL than I thought there was. Anyways, this has great visuals, a profound sense of disillusionment and solitude, and a touching ending. However, the story is marred overall by stuff like the conspiracy theories (e.g., the Schumann frequency), the subplot with the Cyberia kids, the implication of a pre-existing deity, and so on.
2nd GIG: Some unanswered questions get answered on subsequent viewings, so that's nice. Plenty of issues besides it, though.
The Individual Eleven is forgettable - it should have been a group with its own agency. The relationship between Motoko and Kuze, aside from that paper crane episode, remains too brief. Kuze's motives are also muddy, so his POV is not entirely relatable. This means he remains 'distant' from the viewer's perspective throughout, and whatever ends up happening to him doesn't have that much of an impact.
But overall the geopolitics and scheming of different groups is spot-on, and its use of an overarching plot instead of standalone episodes (unlike the first season) is respectable.
Ergo Proxy: Throws around too many philosophical terms, but otherwise it stays intriguing much of the time.
LoGH: Holds up unexpectedly well during rewatches. While the characters are iconic, the world and history seem too derivative. Also, the aesthetic is extremely dated and the androcentrism is unfortunate.
Monster: A rewatch revealed a bit too many contrived moments and plot holes and the fact that the subplots varied in quality. An incomplete list of thoughts by subplot is as follows.
Private detective and introduction of Reichwine: good. But why does Reichwine keep using his old office after Roberto tried to kill him there? And why doesn't Roberto burn it down?
Introduction of rich guy and the arson: somewhat good.
Introduction of Grimmer and Jan, up to Tenma's arrest: very good. But how does a kid contemplate suicide just after visiting a red light district? And I'm surprised the crossdressing Johan didn't just poison the kid using the juice. Also, Eva apparently had a change of heart towards Tenma after the encounter in the forest, so why does she keep refusing to testify for him later on?
Martin and the criminal organization: Eva gets character development but then out of the blue wants to shoot Johan herself.
Nina's suicide attempt: If she's so broken, how was she able to speak coherently to Tenma about what she saw? This actually happens other times too (e.g., in Dr. Gillen's car on the way to Ruhenheim.)
Ruhenheim: Johan's motivations are still murky, and so he stays as a plot device rather than become a character.
The ending: Despite being very open-ended, it's iconic and a pretty good creative decision overall.
Cang Lan Jue season 1 part 2: Rad. Lit. Let it cook. Whatever. Wang Mang is cool as heck and makes a nice contrast with Dongfang Qingcang.
12 Kingdoms: The third arc is brilliant. You get to see meaningful development for not one, but three characters!
Utena: Highly respect this for its third arc; its second arc is also interesting.
Fantastic Children: Engrossing. Managed to beat expectations, even after the reveal.
Fullmetal Alchemist (2003): A contemplative air arises as characters increasingly question their motives and existence.
The ending, though rushed and lacking plot-wise, really fleshes out the core messages. Clearly some dreams demand too great a sacrifice and shouldn't be attained at the expense of all that's been gained. And the world is imperfect - but it might be best to accept this imperfection.
Aside from the themes, other highlights include the lore about the homunculi, which is honestly quite impressive given that it is original and unique to this version of the story.
Little Witch Academia (TV): I'll just list the good parts and bad parts.
Good: Akko's journey to discover the hidden magic or something; Akko trying to prove herself despite being an outcast in the academy; the truth about Chariot; Diana's backstory; the magical atmosphere.
Bad: The subplot with the villain in the second half; the subtext of Andrew being a potential love interest of Akko (ew); the attempt at politics; the ending showing the power of magic (so-so).
All in all, the segment from episodes 11 to 13 is really the best part; it is the most faithful representation of the spirit of the first OVA. The other parts, especially later on, meandered a bit and strayed from this path.

Start of Kaguya-sama First Kiss wa Owaranai ED: The sea suggested by the paper art is clearly delimited, yet its deep colors combined with the clear, pensive overture suggests a subtle sense of scale in the setting, resulting in a convincing blend of sound and scene.
Start of Welcome to the NHK ED 2: The grainy television and the slower, melancholic melody evokes a silent nostalgia.
The rooftop scene in the Garden of Sinners movie 1.
Start of Casshern Sins ED 1: The reverberation in the electronic notes pair well with the ripple effects. The optimism in the sound suggests a kind of ultramarine dawn, which is indeed shown later in the ending sequence.

Thanks. I've had the GIF up there for a while, just as something to look at. I knew it was from one of the Conan films, though I haven't seen anything from the franchise myself.
Boogiepop is, on paper, right up my alley. I love Ryuutarou Nakamura and I absolutely adore Hiroshi Hamasaki. But for some reason I just couldn't get through episodes without losing my concentration. I don't remember anything about it apart from that Nagi was cool and that black vignette lol.
I should rewatch it and give it a fair shake, or at least read the light novels.

I love 2nd GIG, though I slightly prefer the first season; it's in my favs for the time being due to how my profile operates, lol. But I get what you mean. It comes to me now that SAC is somewhat niche, even more so 2nd GIG, which is a surprise (or not) given the OG's legacy. It's nice that it's cherished within a small community :)
