Hi! I’m Natalie. I’m trans of gender and ace of sexual and I write dark fantasy and dark sci-fi adventure stories full of boners and thud-and-blunder action violence wherein no swash remains unbuckled, nor pot unboiled. I also blog about books and history and languages and I write essays and poetry sometimes, and don’t forget about the many exciting Age of Empires 2 scenarios available at Natalie’s Cool Website.

You might have heard my short story The Wishing Tree on the Tales to Terrify podcast! (now available as a zine from Grinning Kitten Press). Other stuff I’ve published to date includes:

THE LAST GIRL SCOUT: A post-apocalyptic wasteland adventure story and transbian romance about two women who fall in lesbians together and fight Nazis and draculas in the bombed-out ruins of Old America

LEAD AND ROSES: LOVE SONGS AT THE END OF THE WORLD: A collection of short fiction set within 23rd-century post-nuclear wasteland we’ve all come to know and love

IN THE COURT OF THE NAMELESS QUEEN: A collection of dark fantasy f/f erotica about sexy swashbuckling swordswomen (both cis and normal) and a giant scary monster lady in a far-off realm of adventure and dark magic.

If you’re curious I’d really like it if you’d check out my Patreon because there’s even more fantabulous treasures on there and you can subscribe for the low, low price of just one American dollar. Your one American dollar will go toward the ever topical “Natalie can make rent and doesn’t starve” philanthropy fund.

I’m gonna stay here on Tumblr until they forcibly remove me from the premises, but I’m also on Pillowfort, Bluesky, and Cohost

I also have a wishlist on Throne if u want to help me pick up work supplies or just kick me some groceries (please do I am very hungry):

A black and red graphic that reads, "If you work in agriculture, energy, construction, manufacturing, publishing, transportation, communication, public service, recreation, retail, food service, gig work, freelance, sex work, homemaking, or anything else, join the IWW. iww.org/membership"ALT

The IWW is a union for all workers!

As long as you are a worker — not an employer — you can join the IWW. Members of other unions (except officers), students, retirees, the unemployed, the self-employed, those in informal professions, and those unable to work may also join. To us, you are all workers.

There is a difference in interests at work between employees and employers. Even if someone doesn’t own the business, if they have real hiring and firing power over other workers then they count as an employer to us.

By restricting our membership to only workers we make it easier to act in solidarity with other people at your job and improve your working conditions. If you are a worker then you belong in the IWW with us!

The Trump administration’s chief legal advisor instructed the US security service to create a “cash reward system” incentivising members of the public to share information on what the attorney’s office described as “domestic terrorist groups.”

These groups, according to Bondi, include groups or individuals promoting so-called “radical gender ideology” and “hostility towards traditional values on family, religion, and morality.”

The leaked memo, issued on 5 December, argues the strategy would lead to the “successful identification and arrest” of relevant individuals and groups.

We deliver food to folks who can’t leave their homes due to lack of transportation or disability.

We grow veggies at the McRorie Community Garden! All produce is distributed through our pantries.

Hi! The city of Gainesville, Florida is one of the worst places in America to be homeless, but the good news is that it's also in the middle of an apocalyptic housing crisis. Large swaths of the city, including its remaining Black neighborhoods, are food deserts. The Gainesville Free Grocery Store distributes free food to the hungry and needy on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Civic Media Center at 433 South Main Street downtown, and they help a lot of people and are saving lives. They could use support!

From the website:

Donating Food

As of November 2025, we can accept food donations at Working Food (219 NW 10th Ave. Gainesville, FL) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10a-2p. If you have a larger donation you’d like to make but cannot come during those times, please email us to coordinate an alternate drop-off time.

You can also donate food on the same day as our food pantries at the Civic Media Center (433 S. Main St.) as early as 12 pm. On good weather days, you can drop off food in the courtyard, but please text us if you’ve left food so that we know and can bring it inside.

Guidelines for what we can and prefer to accept are as follows:

  • Packaged food – Must be unopened and unexpired
  • Canned proteins (beans, tuna, chicken)
  • Grains (rice, pasta, flour, cornmeal)
  • Shelf-stable milks
  • Oils (vegetable, olive, etc.)
  • Snacks (crackers, gummies, applesauce)
  • Ground coffee
  • Baby food
  • We always appreciate gluten-free products and vegan substitutes!
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Must not be moldy or severely damaged
  • We welcome farm or garden-fresh vegetables!
  • Eggs
  • We cannot accept farm-fresh eggs due to food safety guidelines
  • Prepared food
  • We cannot accept fresh/homemade prepared food

If you’d like to run a food drive for us, email, Instagram DM, or call us!

Giving Money

Recurring donations help us create stability for people experiencing food insecurity. Recurring donations help us transform from charity and towards solidarity. $10 pays for a week of groceries for 5 families. $50 pays for a little more than a month for the same 5 families.

The easiest way to donate money is through our PayPal, Venmo, or CashApp.

Also reblog this post a lot! I'll try to remember to do a fresh reblog with times and dates when each event is announced, so don't forget to check the notes :)

You should read The Last Girl Scout

Did you know that I, award-winning speculative fiction author Natalie H. Ironside, have written like a real book that you can buy and hold physically in your hands?  Exciting!

The Last Girl Scout is a dystopian adventure story about queer hillbillies going on a big adventure in the irradiated ruins of Old America.  If you liked Fallout or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or all things American Gothic then I got five bucks says you’ll like this.  Plus it’s got lesbians in it &and they are in love & they even hold hands.

The past lies like a nightmare over the world.

Two hundred years after the War when atomic fire rained from the skies and burned the world to cinders, human civilization has had time to rebuild within the burned-out husk of Old America.  But the old terrors of the past still persist, and while some work to build a better world, others still dream of reclaiming the glory of the Old World.

In southern Appalachia, political commissar Magnolia Blackadder is sent on a mission into the irradiated Exclusion Zone of Old DC, where an evil that humanity thought it had vanquished centuries ago is waking up and rebuilding its strength.  Along the way, she meets a strange woman with terrible secrets and an unspeakable past, and as they forge a bond and brave the terrors of the wasteland together, she learns that some demons are not so easily exorcised, and that some stones are better left unturned.

In this her debut novel, award-winning author Natalie Ironside delivers a new vision of the post-apocalypse, a tale of adventure, terror, love, and that most basic and most powerful of all human desires:  Freedom.

“But Natalie,” you say, “of course I want to support queer fiction and read this post-apocalyptic wasteland adventure transbian romance story, but how can I become a part of this true and amazing way?”  Well, I’ll tell you!

Fun fact: I scored significantly lower on my trial exams than I could have because I couldn’t put down this book. No regrets.

I’m halfway done and really enjoying it! Zombies, vampires, transgender leads, Nazis getting shot. What more could you want from a book?

FW Ironside is excellent at grappling with multiple complex ideas in a pretty didactic fashion and writing compelling pulpy action. The Book Fucks

If there’s anyone following me who hasn’t read The Last Girl Scout and has any interest at all in post-apoc, political intrigue or queer fiction, I’d strongly recommend giving Natalie’s book a try. It’s a compelling character-driven adventure brought to life by it’s diverse and believable cast. Characters come from a wide range of backgrounds- ethnicities, religions, sexualities and genders, all written as natural and integrated parts of multi-faceted beings, neither token asides to check off diversity boxes nor flat caricatures defined by singular traits, but complete and realistic, reflecting the same type of diversity of experiences the real world has to offer. The transbian romance that makes the beating heart of the story is complex and layered, and the queer issues it discusses go beyond the simple “queer pain” narrative that dominates mainstream queer lit, showcasing a broad and diverse range of experiences. The political elements, while a tad heavy-handed at times, weave a brilliant and fleshed-out example of a functioning society where a broad range of leftist views and factions work together towards common goals. Leftists of all stripes might want to give this a read if solely to draw inspiration from the depiction of pan-left cooperation.

In both the personal and political, Natalie repeatedly echoes the theme that while the ghosts of the past may shape the present, they do not define the future- only our choices to move forward do. But those choices are not made in a vacuum, and ultimately moving forward to a future worth having can only come from acknowledging the past, owning up to your sins and making a conscious effort to make amends for the harm you’ve caused.

Also it has spooky draculas and if I haven’t at least mildly intrigued you by this point idk why you’re even following me lol

Five years ago today, after Minneapolis police murdered George Floyd, demonstrators forced them to abandon the Third Precinct and set it on fire—a profound act of solidarity and faith in the possibility of social change.

This account describes how they did it:

https://crimethinc.com/thirdprecinct

Not long after, a Newsweek poll found that fully 54% of those questioned believed the burning of the Minneapolis Police Precinct was justified after George Floyd’s killing.

At that time, Joe Biden was polling around 46% and Donald Trump at 38%.

Never let them tell you resistance can't be popular.

This video depicts a moment that is nearly impossible to observe: a sperm whale surfacing with a giant squid clenched between its teeth.
These predators hunt at depths exceeding 800 meters, where light does not penetrate, and only biosonar directs the pursuit. Consequently, clear surface images are exceedingly rare.

This is, factually, the first footage of this that we have ever gotten. This has never been observed by a human being before in recorded history. The only reason we knew these whales ate those squids before was the beaks of the squids found in the stomachs of dead whales, and the battle scars on whales consistent with fighting giant squids.

My favorite thing about this clip is that, in the original uncropped footage, you can see her calf is right beside her, ascending from the depths along with her. Whale calves don't dive until they're taught by their mothers. It is very likely that this footage is of a mother whale teaching her calf to hunt on one of its very first dives.

When I saw this footage for the first time, I cried a little tbh.
