i feel like. the rejection to like. transandrophobia/transmisandry/antitransmasculinity/whatever we're calling it discussion. is not because it's an inherently flawed word for analyzing structural oppression, but because many people on this site, both cis or trans, trans or transfem, do not want to acknowledge that they have internalized and perpetrate this. critique of these terms and associated concepts often clearly are in line w the association of transmasculinity as simply , immature cis girls trying to benefit off of (trans)misogyny or making up new words to feel special. which regardless of what you want to call it is definitely emblematic of transphobic attitudes from cis ppl/ppl in power over trans ppl

it's also like. the same hostility that discussions of transmisogyny often receive, especiallyyyyy when the word hadn't entered popular trans culture. regardless of your identity/position under oppression, you're not incapable of being bigoted or denying marginalized ppl the opportunity to create language and theory around the experiences under oppression

i do def disagree with framing it being "more oppressive" than transmisogyny/antitransfemininity. that's ridiculous. but most ppl saying that every person who discusses antitransmasculinity must believe that, simply have not done reading into the actual theory created and have instead ran into ppl misusing/misunderstanding the concepts in a predatory sense. transphobia is extremely varied and often most popular transphobic discussions are focused on transfeminine ppl rn, but just because we can struggle in different ways, doesn't mean that transmascs necessarily "suffer more" than transfems and i dislike seeing ppl frame antitransmasculinity theory as being about that

in one way, governments regulating pornography is worse than the drug war because at least in the case of the drug war people can agree on what cocaine even is. There is no consensus on what pornography is. It would be like if the government decided to regulate "junk food" and then defined junk food as "food which appeals to the glutton's hunger".

theres been a lot of talk about the problems with shinigami eyes (the browser extension) lately but i think the funniest one is going to their github and finding out that for a brief period the wikipedia page for okra was marked as transphobic. like. the plant.

#not to be like snarky about this#but like#this was the obvious way that a browser extension for marking people as javing bad ideology was going to go wrong#and frankly I feel like both it and the whole “TERFs say these words” without learning what they believe#leads to people not actually being able to spot TERF rhetoric that doesn't use the buzz words or isn't flagged yet#like you don't need a browser extension you just need your own critical thinking skills and judgment#and sure you'll get it wrong sometimes#but I think you'll have a higher accuracy rate at spotting TERFs if you have knowledge of their worldview#vs just knowing their dogwhistles#because those are always changing#and knowing what they think will allow you to spot those dogwhistles regardless of how new they are#like you're better off going into one of the TERF tags (if you can stand it)#and finding one post with like 20-30 notes and blocking every one of them#they all reblog each other's shit anyways so blocking even a handful will pretty effectively cut you off from them as a group#(I mention a small note count because larger posts will have people refuting them and liking the refutation)#(smaller ones are all of them sitting in a circle nodding about how evil bad men are)#and when you do that you also get a good grip of the patterns and ways of thinking#so when you see a viral post with a reblog that's basically “men already know these things are bad they do them because they have no morals”#well you can clock that person as a TERF pretty quickly#we cannot be so eager to outsource our judgment - tags by @thetrekkiehasthephonebox
