So...I see a lot of people hating on the Mega Starmie design. It's goofy, but the reference is going over our heads. The design is probably a reference to a 1956 Tokatsu Science Fiction film (think Godzilla era of practical affects and kaijus). It was called "Warning from Space" and was directed by Koji Shima. You can see in the flavor text in plza the extraterrestrial inference/allusion. That's because the film it was inspired by was a Space invasion movie essentially. I think there is also a 1960 DC villain (Starro) with a similar motif/is a reference to this film too?

So in short, this design wasn't made for you. That's ok. It was a reference to Japanese media that went over most of our heads. That is all. I'm curious to look into that else they referenced with the new mega evolutions.

I'm writing a research paper for my college english class about how pigments and colors contribute to overall trends in art, and I'm required to do a survey, so i thought tumblr as a social media filled with artists would be a great choice. It's just going to ask a few questions about your age and art education before getting to the important part, which is a list of what oil paints you own. I wanted to limit it to just oil since thats the focus of my paper. Im hoping to get an idea about what an average contemporary oil palette looks like, so I'd appreciate hearing from all of you! It will be completely anonymous, and the only person seeing this paper will be my english professor.
