The caption reads: “Defeated by roses. Near Turin’s Lingotto station, along a lonely path, Miss Guida Concetta Rinino, 28 years old, who was bringing a nice bunch of roses to a relative, was accosted by an unknown young man. The young woman, rather than losing heart, defended herself with extraordinary energy, using the bunch of flowers as a weapon. So it was that the scoundrel, his face all scratched up, had to flee. (Drawing by Walter Molino.)”

Incredible. At a distance I understand how the woman might appear to be the abuser and the man the sympathetic victim, but the second you zoom into the man’s face the pink-cheeked rage- not remorse, or rejection, or embarrassment- not heartbreak or despair- but RAGE- the deeper story speaks itself into your suspicions.

And the bit where they’re HER roses? Almost a relief, but also sadder, as she will arrive at whatever event without them, or with them destroyed.

Do you think when the righteous anger and anxiety and annoyance fade, when she arrives at her destination- will her loved ones applaud her? Will she be proud? Will her hands shake? Will she walk home with company from then out, and for how long?

In this moment, she is provoked into anger. Anger is good- it appears strong. But look at his face. Would you put it past him to linger there after dark, in case she returns alone?

What story will HE tell, of ‘I was perfectly polite, but she didn’t even give me a chance- women like that, they’d swoon for a jerk in a heartbeat, but kind and flattering men like me?…”

I love this piece. It paints both stories while illustrating the power dynamics and struggles at play. This should be shown in art classes

Your fandom spaces were all built by so called “proshippers”

also what the fuck does “content that targets them” fucking mean?! I’m no one is targeting fucking teens, we all target freaks like ourselves

Does it mean “content that we, the teens, want to read?” kind of a “how dare you tempt me with your slutty slutty text file” sort of vibe

F11 the full screen button? You’re scared of the full screen button? F10?? It opens the menu bar???

Computers are so scary what if I accidentally hit F12 in a steam game and it takes a screenshot. What if I press shift + F12 while in word and accidentally save my document 😖

    image

If you had to learn what the F keys on your computer do through me reblogging this post, then I’m glad you did. Computer literacy is not a skill that gets taught anymore, and it is absolutely one that needs to be taught in order to be learned. Don’t ever feel bad for not knowing something, but ☝️ don’t ever stop learning learning about your environment, the tools you use, and especially the people around you

Never stop learning+ Never stop sharing what you learned

Y'all. “Hell is empty and the devil’s are here” is not one of those epic Tumblr quotes. It’s from The Tempest. The Shakespeare one.

remember when that furry post went around with “you have nothing to lose but your chains” and people were saying “this is such a raw ass line and it’s from a furry post” but it’s literally karl marx

reading waiting for godot for class and finding out that’s where that “that’s how it is on this bitch of an earth” meme is from ruined me i think

new game: “classic or shitpost?” in which we give you a raw-ass quote and you have to determine whether it came from an internet shitpost or classic literature

“I will face god and walk backward into hell” that one on the other hand is actually from a dril tweet

Taking up Japanese as a side project for myself has reminded me of something.

So like a long time ago I had a professor that I absolutely adored. She happened to be Japanese American. She grew up speaking Japanese at home but never really spent a lot of time in Japan. She mostly spoke with other Japanese Americans and read books.

So one day early in her teaching career there’s an exchange student from Japan who’s having a hard time understanding a concept so she explained it to him in Japanese and then he looked absolutely rattled. Like in shock. Pale.

This is how she learned that the way she speaks Japanese makes her sound like a gang member.

Japanese doesn’t exactly have cuss words in the same way as English does but imagine that the nicest professor you’ve ever had pulls your paper over and says “Okay listen here you little piece of shit I’m gonna fucking explain this to you. Violently.”

THE advantage of memorizing poetry is that when somethings happening, maybe even you’re in a situation or a location, you can just go “ok. lady of shallott time” and boom. you reclaimed your mental space and attention for YOU for the next ten minutes

Everyone should be able to do one card trick, tell two jokes, and recite three poems, in case they are ever trapped in an elevator.

    Lemony Snicket, Horseradish

i know this is humorous but! i learned from one of my college friends (who learned from a therapist) that reciting a poem you have memorized is a great grounding & focusing technique when you’re spiraling into anxiety or panic. i can personally attest that The Tyger has staved off several panic attacks.

so like if said “situation or location” is freaking you out really badly, “lady of shallott time” can help reclaim your mental health too

Ok everybody share what poems you can recite in case we’re trapped in an elevator.

I’ve got the first 42 lines of The Canterbury Tales in Middle English, the first 10 lines of Beowulf in Old English, the first canto of Tolkien’s Lay of Beren and Luthien, and Sonnet XVI by Pablo Neruda (“I love the handful of the earth you are”). I used to have the Proem of the Kalevala but I’m a bit shaky on it it now and I think i’ve only got the first two sentences. Anda handful of others I half-remember which i could probably do if I were with someone else who half-remembered the same ones and we could prompt each other back and forth.

The Cremation of Sam MacGee, Jabberwocky, and a good chunk of The Raven.

    BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU UPLOAD

    license to use

If you send a message with an image to a channel, it gets sent to discord servers.

    reproduce

Once they receive it, it has to be copied into their internal storage

    distribute

and sent to others when they visit that channel. This is basic Discord functionality.

    create derivative works of

someone on a mobile phone clicks on a channel and the discord app downloads a thumbnail (a downscaled version of the image), saving 4.7MB or so on transfer, and a whole bunch of time. the thumbnail is a derivative work, legally speaking.

    display

the discord app can display messages sent by you to another user.

    perform

the discord app can play audio and video files uploaded by you to another user.

limited purpose of providing, developing and improving our services

    well yeah

    This license is worldwide

they’d have to geoblock your messages otherwise

    non-exclusive

you still own the thing as far as copyrights go

    royalty-free

they’d have to pay you every time they show your messages to someone otherwise

    sublicensable

they can let someone else (say, a bot like pluralkit) access your messages

    transferable

actually not sure about this one. that being said while being suspicious of “privacy policy updates” is good, the screenshot above shows nothing and is more fearmongery than informational.

“Transferable” covers if they sell the company.

This is bog-standard boilerplate “you can’t sue us for doing the thing you told us to do” language.

EDIT: Except for the part where they specifically limit it to using your material only for the services provided and their improvement. That part is unusual. It shouldn’t be, as it’s the part that protects you from exactly the exploitation that OP was worried about.

Reader: so an unreliable narrator means that not everything they say can be trusted to be true in the story?

    Writer: yes that’s correct!

Reader: so anything this character says might be wrong, or a lie, or a misunderstanding?

    Writer: exactly!

Reader: so if I don’t like something that this character says because it contradicts another idea that I prefer, I can just decide they’re wrong or lying?

Writer: well… sure, you can, unless there’s some other reason in the story to think it’s true–

Reader: so I can say that it’s not canon that this thing this character said is true because they’re an unreliable narrator?

Writer: I mean it would cast the things they say into more doubt than if they were omniscient, but–

Reader: so that means that anyone who thinks the stuff I don’t like IS true is not understanding the story and this unreliable narrator idea and is actually wrong instead?

Writer: now hang on a minute–

Reader: great thanks so much bye!!!

    1. This is really important right now. With the way the world is trying to eugenics autism away or use it to harm people, things like big corporations embracing it with products or characters is important.

    1.9 ears
    3.6 legs
    0.975 tails
