“Ser? That fat septon said my father sulks in Summerhall.” “Words are wind.” “My father doesn’t sulk.” “Well,” said Dunk, “he might. You sulk.” “I do not. Ser.” (…) (…) “When the king named Lord Bloodraven his Hand, your lord father refused to be part of his council and departed King’s Landing for his own seat,” he reminded Egg. “He has been at Summerhall for a year, and half of another. What do you call that, if not sulking?” “I call it being wroth,” Egg declared loftily.
Oh to be eleven years old and finding a life-changing obscure paperback in the library
you have no idea how often i think about thoros refusing to kiss catelyn. you have no idea how often i think about the first last kiss thoros gives beric, a kiss that didn’t serve any purpose at all save to say i love you. thoros not being able to let beric go and resurrecting him again and again, against his will, until it becomes a kiss more akin to violence than to love. i can’t get the image of thoros taking beric’s body out of sight to kiss him where no one else could see after sandor’s trial by combat. their overarching story is not subtle in how it mirrors frankenstein’s but it’s also leans very heavily on the “true love’s kiss” element. it’s one of the most openly queer relationships in asoiaf and people don’t… talk about it. thoros had given others the last kiss “but never before had I felt a dead man shudder as the fire filled him, nor seen his eyes come open”. that’s snow white. that’s the sleeping beauty. that’s a love story.
the main and frankly only reason thoros hasn’t given up on the brotherhood despite understanding that the path lady stoneheart treks is a treacherous one is because of beric. because thoros refused him and beric paid the price. lady stoneheart is beric dondarrion’s ghost, too, in more ways than one.
Aemon Blackfyre (OC) + extra info
The third portrait for the Blackfyre family tree, we have the eldest child Aemon. A knightly lad with an honorable nature, Visenya cherishes him deeply. Though she loves all her children, there is nothing quite like the bond between a mother and her firstborn. The second son Viseryn is up next.
Conquest Era OC: Saerea Calaerys (ft. Her cousin Aenerys, who's my pal @applinjam's OC)
This will probably be my last personal piece for a hot second as I'm locking tf in for comms 😤. I do want to redraw her dragon Tyseleys in the future, tho. Also, if u enjoy her lore & the world building of her house, pls feel free to leave questions in my inbox. In fact, feel free to ask questions about any of my OCs. I'm always willing to answer ☺️.
What does Haera look like? Do you have any sketches or ideas on her? I’d love to hear more about Saerea’s ancestor!
Tbh anon, while I do have some lore on Haera, I'd never actually drawn her since she was such a far off, background character to Saerea's lore lmao. But this ask was the perfect excuse to draw her so thanks anon!
I see her having the Caelerys wine-purple eyes and the honey gold hair (very similar to Saerea in looks). As for info and lore, she was a young woman when she left Valyria (21 or 22 I imagine) due to the doom, freshly widowed with a 3yr old son and an infant daughter. Her house had always ranked average in power amongst the dragonlord families, but by the time she had become lady of house Calaerys, their power had begun to wane significantly. She was amongst the younger of the dragonlord rulers, and was steadily losing power, so she had little influence in governance over the freehold and wasn't respected much. Her consort, her beloved brother Daegor, had been her greatest pillar of support, until he died in an unfortunate accident that she secretly suspects wasn't an accident, and this took a massive toll on her mentally and emotionally. When Aenar Targaryen informed the other dragonlords of the oncoming doom, she was the only one to take his warning seriously. In the end, her family was losing power, other dragonlords had possibly killed her husband to further weaken them, and she was fretting over the safety of her children and remaining family members, and the news of the doom was the final nail in the coffin. She decided she had to get her family out of Valyria and fled, taking every little thing they had with them as a sign they'd never return. Only three of her vassals followed her family to Westeros; House Agnaris, House Polemys, & House Nhalamyr. Oh! And the dragon that decorates their family coat of arms is supposed to be her dragon, Tyraenax the Goliath, a white, burly dragon who's final rider was Saerea's father, Lord Aekar.
What does Haera look like without her crown? How does she do her hair?
Haera looks like this without her crown, and since she has really long, really thick hair, she probably styles her hair in long, flowing braided styles, or in heavily braided half-up/half-down hairstyles. She just has too much hair to put it all up in a big up-do T_T.
~The Princess and Her Ladies~
Here's more of Princess Maera, but now with her ladies-in-waiting! Enjoying the tourney fanfare with their princess, we have: Lady Cecelia Mallister: The red haired maiden, she is the composed, mature, voice of reason amongst the women. Her mother is a Tully, hence her red hair, fishtail braid, and the fish scale pattern on her gown. Out of all the handmaids, Maera considers her the most reliable and skilled, so she is often assigned the tasks of greatest importance/urgency.
Lady Phaedra Agnaris: The Valyrian maiden, she is a daughter of my fanmade, non-dragonlord, Valyrian house, House Agnaris. Her house was a vassal family of House Calaerys, Queen Saerea's house. Maera finds a strong sense of kinship with her due to their shared Valyrian heritage, and Phaedra's familial connection to her grandmother's house. Phaedra is also the youngest of the women.
Lady Adella Blackwood: She is the cousin of Princess Maera via marriage (Queen Shaera's marriage to her uncle Samson), and is the oldest of the women. Though she is greatly fond of her cousin, she fiercely despises her fellow lady-in-waiting, Lady Deirdre. Maera and Cecelia often have to break up their fights and mediate when tensions rise between them.
Lady Deirdre Bracken: An admirer of Princess Maera (who had become vastly popular in the Riverlands) she had eagerly put herself forwards to be chosen as one of the princess's handmaidens. She did this despite knowing she'd have to be around the Princess's Blackwood cousin, Lady Adella, whom she shares an ugly, mutual hatred towards. Having a petty, argumentative nature, she is often the starter of clashes between her and Adella.
