It was good. Really good, even though his lips were chapped and Keith kinda smelled like sweat, actually it might’ve been because of that that it was so good.
Lance had imagined what it would be like to kiss Keith, a lot, like a lot a lot and it was never like this.
He imagined the kissing on the battlefield, Even though kissing in the middle of a mission is just asking to get shot.
Keith would be all stoic like "See you on the other side," with his mullet blowing in the wind. Then Lance would be all like "Not if I see you first." Then they would make out. Rough, both of them pushing too hard. Keith would make Lance forget his own name and hopefully bite him, but the whole thing was ridiculous.
Keith really isn’t even that stoic, honestly he's kind of a dork, and really gullible, and Lance thinks a little shy.
They had started hanging out on the observation deck most nights after Lance had saved Coran. They never discussed it. Lance would come after tossing and turning for hours, trying and failing not to think about everything he left behind. His mom, the picture of Nadia on his bedside table, the rain. He would come here and trace his journey through all the planets they visited. He practiced the story he was gonna tell to his Mama and family. Thinking about how he would have to keep out all of the near death experiences.
Keith would join him after he got too tired to train, but not before he took a shower, which Lance always teased him for.
Then they would talk. Keith was a good listener and if Lance talked for long enough Keith would share too. Lance had all sorts of Keith trivia stored up. His dad was a firefighter, his shack didn't have running water, and when he couldn't sleep he used to sit up on the roof and look at the stars.
Lance also learned that he really really liked him. Which was embarrassing, and he was never ever going to tell anybody this.
But, he was going to keep coming to the observation deck. Apparently that was enough of a confession, because here he was, and Keith had kissed him. He was still kissing him, and it wasn't a fight like he thought it would be. It was just nice, and good, and Lance didn’t forget his name, he felt more like himself with Keith.
He wondered what his Mama would think about Keith, she would probably take one look at his big sad eyes and demand that he had to stay for dinner. Then definitely laugh at Lance for all the times he called home to rant about Keith.
Keith suddenly bit Lance’s lip and pulled away. "Stop thinking so loud."
"What?" Lance said, dumb with kisses.
Keith leaned in again, bumping his nose with Lance's. "Don't think so much."
"Yeah," and it was less of a word and more of an exhale of sound "Yeah, okay" and Lance closed the distance.
