A Dream I Can Call My Own

eight: i'd rather die with you than live without you

SUMMARY: After an accident on call, Tommy Kinard found himself stuck in a coma, living his favorite romantic comedy movies with the one person Tommy wanted his romcom happy ending with, Evan Buckley. As he ignores the signs, he is stuck in a coma, his reality bleeds in more and more, forcing him to face his past, his mistakes, and his wishes. What seems like a dream twists into a nightmare he cannot get out of. As he runs out of time, it’s up to Tommy to figure out how to stop running from happiness and learn to fight for his relationship with the love of his life.

“What am I to you, Tommy?” Evan questioned.

    What was Evan to Tommy?

The answer wasn’t clear; it was convoluted, murky. Evan was Tommy’s joy. Evan was Tommy’s heartbreak. Evan is what gave Tommy hope. Evan is what drove Tommy mad with insecurities and doubts. Evan was his sun, his moon, his stars. Evan was the part of Tommy that was missing for too long. Evan made Tommy understand himself better on good days and made Tommy confused about his actions on bad days. Evan was everything to Tommy.

    “It’s complicated,” Tommy said plainly.

“It doesn’t seem all that complicated, Tommy,” Evan expressed, determination burned brightly in him. “You said we have gone through seven different scenarios of seven different romcoms. Seven different times we had fallen in love. It’s not as complicated as you make it out to be.”

Seven different movies Tommy had fallen in love with instantly. All gave him great comfort. Eight if Tommy was to count this one. But even then, even if he didn't count this one, it was still more than seven times. Tommy had fallen in love with Evan countless times in his life. He can recall the first time Tommy finally admitted to himself that he had fallen in love with Evan.

‘Cause our people are what make life worth living.

  • my hot take on shipping discourse is that these days it feels like some people care more about 'winning' than actually investing in the ship. like you do know that you can take these characters and write or draw or gif them however you want, it doesn't matter what 'canon' says, right?
