Jinxed Archer chapter 8

I had some spare motivation, so I took some time yesterday to work on Jinxed Archer. This is mainly a conversation between Jinx and Raven where we go into how the amulet works, how Jinx’s powers work, and how she got the powers. Enjoy (here’s the AO3 link if you’d prefer that.)

Jinx approached Raven, asking if she’s ready to continue their “discussion” now. Raven agreed, only for Starfire, who had finished feeding Silkie, to interrupt “What discussion? Oooh, are you having the Girls’ talk?  May I please join in?”

Jinx blanched, and Raven said, “Uh no Starfire, we’re not having girl talk. Earlier on the way to Vegas, Jinx and I were discussing magic, her magic specifically. It’s kinda personal, so this should probably be a private conversation, and besides, I know you get bored when I talk about magic.”

“Are you sure you don’t want me there, friend Jinx?”

“Sorry Starfire, no offense, it’s just that it’s hard for me to open up about this stuff and I really don’t want more people than necessary to know some of the stuff I’ve been through. I haven’t even talked to Kid about this stuff yet.”

Pinned Post Jinxed Archer Young Justice Teen Titans Kid Flash Wally West Jinx Artemis Crock My writing I think it'll be easier to write going forwards since I finally settled on how the amulet works and how jinx got her powers Also at one point I really intended on the amulet being easily removable but as i was writing this I thought Wouldn't it be FUN if taking it off could KILL her? yeah I couldn't help myself I had to prevent the loopholes and also add angst More Jinxed Archer to come soon thought it will probably be out of order

So, for Single Dad Celine, how long does it take the girls to start intentionally start trying to set their parents up together? I think it would be funny if they were trying from minute one to get them together, but also, the girls being chill about it till the Duo show up then it suddenly becomes "they need to be married yesterday."

fakelawyerbug answered:

Oh the girls start trying to play matchmaker basically as soon as Rumi and Mira become friends with Zoey because in the impeccable logic of three 10-11 year olds, if Celine (Seong-ho) marries Zoey’s mom (Kyung-sun), then the three of them get to stay friends forever and have sleepovers every night.

But it’s like… a 10-11 year old’s idea of what a romantic relationship is (based mostly off tv shows). So like…flowers, hand holding, and if they really like each other, kissing (ew, all three of them say).

(“Appa gives Zoey’s mom flowers all the time, he has to like her!”

And all three of them nod.)

(“I saw eomma hold your dad’s hand for a whole five minutes! I knew eomma liked him!”

And all three of them nod.)

(“Zoey’s mom was wiping something off Appa’s lips. They had to have been kissing!”

“Ew!” All three of them giggle.)

So to the three of them, it’s actually going really well!

Until the Duo shows up and start making weird eyes at Seong-ho and touching his arm and he’s being weird around them and before they even know who these two are, they have become Enemy Number One .

thinking about transmac celine in the deadbeat au and being a sexually atractive person... people assuming his sexuality and expression of it was their bussiness bc he was an idol and when everything fell apart his bandmates basically calling him a whore, only to years later find interest in him...

he was treated like a piece of meat by the media all these years, being called slurs and all, and now the same people who degraded him want a piece of him and aparently don't know how to receive a no... it's like starting all over again

(i say that from a asexual pov, celine is in fact very atractive and pleasing to look at, but i'm sure being objectified all those years did numbers on that mental health)

fakelawyerbug answered:

Oh boy yeah so Fame as a nightmarish panopticon where fans demand that you strip yourself of privacy so they can put you in a glass cage to be admired and tearing you to pieces if you do because a real person is too flawed to be put on that pedestal;

Where everyone just takes and takes, wanting a part of you (but not the real you, the you that they fantasize about, they don’t want a person) and having to preform gratitude because you’re famous, why are you complaining? Don’t you know how good you have it?

Celine who found it easier to deal with the attention pre-transition because why did it matter being treated like meat? The body exists in a shape that people found pleasing. It was useful to his performance as an idol and as a desirable woman. It was all just performance.

But now his body is *his* in a way the old body never was. And it’s so much worse when women flirt at him and drool at him and feel up his muscles without even thinking to ask if he was okay with that.

And he still can’t say anything about it because what man doesn’t want women flirting with him and boiling him down to height and presumed sexual prowess? What man complains when a pretty woman is touching him?

(Miyeong and Third flirt with him in ways that are socially acceptable for a woman to show interest in a man.)

(And that’s the problem.)

Trans!Celine, single dad, flowershop AU (how did it come to this? I ask myself as this side AU spirals further and further from the main AU like a comet being flung into the depth of space.)

Anyways, Zoey's mom!

(Who for our purposes I'm naming Park Kyung-sun)

***

The finalization of her divorce, regaining full custody of her daughter, and their flight back to her homeland should have had Park Kyung-sun crying in relief that her legal battles were finally behind her.

Instead, she was barely holding back her tears as she walked the five blocks from the subway station to her dingy, one bedroom apartment that her daughter -- used to their house in Burbank -- kept caling "fine." Which, in Zoey-speak, meant that she hated it.

Single Dad Celine Au

Celine asks Zoey's mom on a date cause he likes her and wants the Duo to leave them alone.

The Duo have to decide on what's more important, using this opportunity that the parents being away gives them to try and talk to the girls or crashing the date because they want that florist carnally.

fakelawyerbug answered:

//wheeze//

Or, consider, the girls deciding that they’re going to spy on Celine and Zoey’s mom on their date.

The Duo going to talk to the girls and accidentally crashing the date.

The girls are in awful “disguises”, the Duo are also in awful disguises.

Celine glaring at both tables whenever Zoey’s mom is distracted; Zoey’s mom being completely oblivious to what’s going on until Celine goes to the restroom, sees Zoey waving at her. And then Zoey’s mom is trying to distract Celine from noticing that their kids are being So Much right now, not realizing that Celine is trying to distract *her* from noticing the kids and the duo.

Another spin off AU of the Deadbeat Miyeong AU involving transmasc Celine 😔;

(Aka the hot single dad flowershop au)

Where Celine (who is going by a different name but I'm just too lazy rn to make something up) is a florist and owns a flowershop following taking the fall for the baby scandal for Miyeong.

Thinking about the Sunlight Sisters panicking about needing to find their next generation of Hunters because they know that the Honmoon has chosen their successors but they aren’t showing up anywhere, and the longer it takes to find the next hunters the harder it will be to train them (and the riskier, too, because an untrained hunter connecting to the Honmoon is vulnerable and yet the Honmoon doesn’t seem to be giving either of them any hints…)

But they can still feel the three hunters connecting to the Honmoon, so at least the kids haven’t got themselves killed yet? And Thirdlight & Miyeong are debating amongst themselves whether they just put “Do you see weird blue glowing lines you can’t explain when you sing??? Come join our new girl group!” on the next audition announcement because these kids are just not showing up, when one day they do manage to feel enough of a warning tug from the Honmoon that they follow it to its source and see this handsome man & the woman his kids keep teasing him about (teasing him like they’re both equal parts horrified about parents having Romantic Type Feelings, but also giddy with the idea) and apparently all three of his daughters were chosen by the Honmoon..?

They are definitely *not* stalking this man, is what they tell themselves when they keep finding excuses to come around the district his shop is in.

It's "supporting local businesses" when they step in into his flower shop to ask if he does floral arrangements for events. And if he seems startled and a little stiff, well, celebrities probably don't walk into the local florist much.

It can't be stalking if it's for the sake of the Honmoon, and besides it isn't as though they're doing anything wrong. They're just buying flowers - and frankly, Hot Flower Dad ought to be grateful for their business. His arrangements are pristine; his customer service is dogshit. Every time either one of them enters the shop, he gets this look on his face like he's praying for them to just leave. At least twice, he's switched the sign in the door to 'Closed' as they were walking up and then pretended not to notice them knocking. And Thirdlight at least is pretty sure that it's not some misplaced nervous energy from remembering his teenage crush on the Sunlight Sisters, because every time they stop by and see his daughters hanging around Hot Flower Dad deliberately positions himself to stand in between them and the girls and tells the kids to go play somewhere else.

Miyeong and Third are in like a You've Got Mail style romcom; Zoey's mom is in a hallmark christmas movie; the girls are in a Parent Trap style comedy;

Meanwhile, Celine is living through a psychological thriller and is like *sweating* as his ex-whatevers are flirting with him and has no idea who he is really, Zoey's mom is giving him sad puppy eyes because two very hot idols are competing for his attention, and his girls are conspiring to drive off/possibly kidnap the Duo (he did not stick around to hear the end of that debate).

(He's at least told Zoey's mom that he used to be the "disgraced ex-idol Celine")

Mira trying to shield Rumi at times from abuse that she expects but isn't happening based on her own life experience is painful and amazing an idea.

Especially because Celine would refocus on her actions and try to make sure she doesn't do anything to make Mira uneasy, refusing to ever be the parental figure that makes their ward afraid of them.

fakelawyerbug answered:

Mira’s picture of Ryu Rumi being Celine’s perfect little pop-princess shattered three days after she arrived at their hanok; her home for however long it would take for Celine to realize she had made a terrible mistake in extending a contract to Mira and kicked her out.

(Honesty, she was surprised Celine hadn’t rescinded the offer when the call to her parents had resulted in Celine being told that Park Joon-ho didn’t have a daughter, he had two sons, one of whom was clearly sick in the head.)

Okay yes to Mira trying to defuse things (that aren’t about to explode), but have we considered Mira jumping on the grenade (that is actually just a pomegranate)?

Like, she and Rumi are carrying some annoyingly large box together; Mira’s still not sure why Celine invited her to buy furniture to make her room look like hers, but she’s tried her best to both politely accept and politely keep it cheap.

They take a corner, the box slips awkwardly, Rumi’s shoulder bangs backwards and crashes into a picture frame.

Both of them instinctively drop the box with a loud thud, and if the sound of glass breaking hadn’t brought attention to them—

“Is everything alright?” Celine calls.

Shit.

Mira hurries around the box, clamping her hand over Rumi’s mouth before she can be stupid enough to shout back just because she’s in pain. She glances at the side where Rumi must’ve hit the glass—it looks like her hoodie didn’t even get sliced up. Okay. Good.

“Go to your room,” she says, as urgently as she can. “I’ll tell Celine I was trying to carry it by myself, okay?”

Rumi blinks back at her in confusion.

Mira shakes her head, shoves her a little. “Go!”

>:3 ah poor anxious, truamatized Mira

***

The sound of Celine's footsteps came towards them; slippers on hardwood hardly made a sound but to Mira, every step might as well have been followed by the toll of bells announcing her imminent doom.

And it would be Rumi's doom too if she kept standing there like an idiot!

"Hey! What is your problem!" Rumi yelps as Mira shoves her though the nearest open door and shuts it in her face.

Not a moment later, Celine rounds the corner and Mira springs around to face her as if she hadn't been glaring at a door.

"Mira?" She looks at the scene of the crime. At the fallen box and the shards of glass scattered on the floor and the picture frame now missing from the wall. "What happened here?"

"It was my fault," Mira says. "I'm sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going."

Celine tilts her head.

"I thought Rumi was going to help you, where is she?"

Mira shakes her head. "I told her I didn't need help. She -- she didn't do anything wrong. Please don't punish her."
