Possibly the greatest NPR exchange ever recorded

Because I don’t need ten ideas when I’m stuck.

I need one. THE one.

I’m not saying there’s only one way to write, but when I’m stuck, I go for a walk in the woods until the answer comes to me. Not ten answers. THE answer. The answer to how to tell the story I want to tell, in the way I want to tell it.

Art takes time. It takes mistakes. It takes courage. And we’re devaluing it by just trying to make products as quickly as possible.

I don’t want to have a book. I want to write a book.

You know technology literacy is dying because I saw this meme with 76k likes

F11 the full screen button? You’re scared of the full screen button? F10?? It opens the menu bar???

Computers are so scary what if I accidentally hit F12 in a steam game and it takes a screenshot. What if I press shift + F12 while in word and accidentally save my document 😖

If you had to learn what the F keys on your computer do through me reblogging this post, then I'm glad you did. Computer literacy is not a skill that gets taught anymore, and it is absolutely one that needs to be taught in order to be learned. Don't ever feel bad for not knowing something, but ☝️ don't ever stop learning learning about your environment, the tools you use, and especially the people around you

Never stop learning+ Never stop sharing what you learned

Barnes and Nobles is gonna start serving food and alcohol.

Everybody’s cracking jokes about how it’s a desperate attempt to stay relevant in the age of Amazon.

But you know what? Props to them. This is exactly what Blockbuster didn’t do. At no point was Blockbuster like “Hey, movie rentals aren’t the lucrative enterprise they once were. Perhaps it’s time we become known for our cheesy garlic bread.”

Okay but…if someone wants to take me on a date to a Barnes and noble and get me dinner and a drink and then let me peruse the stacks like I’m not saying no. A sandwich, a beer, and 2-5 books on various topics I hope I’ll someday read about? Good night.

The Swedish equivalent of Blockbuster is now best known for its candy, snacks and sodas.

This is El Ateneo Grand Splendid, an old theatre turned bookstore in Buenos Aires:

The stage itself was turned into a cafe:

You can’t even begin to comprehend the massive amounts of money this place makes, despite the fact that they turned the theatre boxes into reading nooks like this:

I’ve literally spent days holed up in there reading books for free while also consuming massive amounts of coffee and pastries.

Adapt or die, people.

OMG that’s AMAZING!

sometimes, I fall head over heels in love with a place. El Ateneo Grand Splendid is incredible. I am in love. At the very least, in lust – that could very easily escalate to love. Le sigh.

this is hilarious to me because not only have I been on tumblr long enough to remember the first time El Ateneo Grand Splendid went viral around here, I actually went there last year (while I was passing through Argentina for a weekend) entirely because tumblr told me to

Look, it’s a weird hill to die on, especially when I don’t really explain, but children deserve to experience fear, disgust, and discomfort in safe scenarios where they can process those sensations.

Media for children used to be scary and that’s important.

“Since it is so likely that (children) will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker.” ― C.S. Lewis

"Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed."

this is great, because the cat looks at her, kind of studies her for a moment and then turns away and imitates her position and the way she's looking out towards nothing (actually toward the camera but to the cat it looks like nothing of particular interest). Cats use mimicry as a form of social bonding. This is why so often if you have to cats you'll find them napping near each other in the same position. It's like they look and say "ahh I see you are napping in a U shape, I also enjoy napping in that particular shape. I am friendly and will U shape nap along with you" This cat studies the strange human and goes "okay, guess we're sitting upright and staring blankly out into space. I can get into that" and proceeds to do just that.

This screencap is actually convincing me that the pokemon world might be hell to live in. Imagine if dog people who let their fugly beasts do whatever they want got access to 60kg dogs that will eat anything made out metal (and are immune to food poisoning) and would wreck any car that ran them over.

"Oh Bauxy isn't bothering anything" "Ma'am your Aron named Bauxite is eating a stop sign. Bauxy is gonna get someone killed."

Imagine coming out of a convenience store only to see that your bike got eaten by an Aron who is now pissing hot solder on the tyres, all the while it's owner named Nickeal or some shit is just at his rotomphone watching KlingToks and not paying any attention.
