Stars The Same As Ever (Hallmark AU)

Big-city programmer Sebastian is home for Winter Star, and Pelican Town has changed since he left. Abby is married. Sam’s band has an obnoxiously friendly new keyboardist. Maru is clearly keeping a big secret from their parents, not that he cares.

In an effort to avoid hanging out with a family he doesn’t mesh with and a friend group he no longer feels secure in, he proposes an arrangement with Ava (local farmer, town hero, and overcommitted disaster): He’ll help out on the farm to avoid his social commitments, and she’ll get an extra hand with her overwhelming list of holiday tasks. Buckle up for a Hallmark-inspired Stardew fic, complete with accidental fake dating, holiday angst, and plenty of humor and fluff.

We Didn’t Start The Fire (Superhero AU)

Ava is a burned-out superhero, literally— she sets a dumpster fire at her soul-crushing JojaCo job, and has to blame her alter-ego to get out of it. With nothing left to lose, she moves to Stardew Valley for a new start… But her partner in vigilante justice, the hacker known as Memento, is convinced she’s been framed, and he will stop at nothing to prove her innocence, as long as he doesn’t fall for the cute farmer who just moved in down the road, first.

The cure to Ava’s hanahaki is straightforward: Painkillers, as needed, and an honest heart-to-heart chat with Sebastian about the big embarrassing crush she’s been trying to ignore for several months now. when van gogh painted his portrait of his mother, he was unsatisfied with the result. it’s unclear why; maybe the colors didn’t feel quite right, or he thought it didn’t properly capture her essence. in any case, he felt it fell short.

but when i texted a photo of the painting to my own mother, nearly a century and a half later, her immediate response was: “she looks like the sort of person i’d like to meet :)”

of all of the van gogh portraits i sent her that day from the museum, his portrait of his mother was her favorite.

the point being, if you’re frustrated because you feel like your art isn’t coming out the way you want it to: strive, yes! but make it anyway. even if it’s not the way you imagined it, it still matters, and other people can still love it (and by moved by it) for what it is.
