Master post of all Shane's autistic moments from episode 1. Feel free to send me an ask or comment any moments I may have missed.
- Shane telling Ilya off for smoking in a no smoking area even though they had just met
- The way Shane travelled so far because he simply 'wanted to introduce himself' to Ilya
- The way the hocky announcers describe Shane "he may not be the most social, but he's got the highest hocky IQ out there"
- Shane's discomfort and lack of social awareness in the post draft celebration - he even needed prompting from his mother to engage other people
- Making the bed before leaving for his late night gym session
- Not touching his lips to Ilya’s water bottle
- His expressions after getting drafted as number 2
- Responding to Ilya’s "you look pretty" compliment with a factual defence "you're wearing makeup too" - could also be due to the homophobia in hocky
- Waiting for Ilya outside the showers and staging putting on his shoe
- His increased anxiety over appearance and presentation before Ilya comes over i.e., putting on a suit, staging looking casual - crossing/uncrossing legs, turning on/off the lamp
- Folding his jeans before s*x
- Fixating over Ilya swallowing even though Ilya was clearly ok with it
- His immediate overwhelm after s*x and partial emotional shut down
- Hyperfixating on YouTube and being late to lunch with his parents
- Yuna's "I ordered for you" followed by her listing his exact order speaks to years of tending to Shane's specific eating habits
- Shane's facial expressions and eye contact through the entire lunch scene
- Shane responding to Ilya’s "will you disappoint them" trash talk factually and monotone
- Shane's lack of eye contact during his entire french interview
- Speculation, but during their joint interview Shane is not wearing a tie (Ilya is) potentially due to sensory discomfort
- Shane consistently referencing/talking about his mum in the hocky space - safe topic/easy to socially navigate
- "I'm standing in the hallway like an idiot. Scott Hunter is right next door" outburst
- The socks stay on.
- His facial and body language as he processes the potential outcomes and how to communicate his feelings after Ilya’s "get on your stomach" instructions
- His delayed processing, overwhelm, and clunky communication when trying to communicate his desire and apprehension to take s*x further due to Scott's proximity
- The minor shut down that follows the previous delayed processing when Ilya is planning their next meet up. This causes Ilya’s prompting i.e., "you are homeless?", "give me phone"
- Responding to a dinner invite with "I'm on a macrobiotic diet"
- Shane stopping on the stairs, looking at his parents and doing his little nod before holding up his trophy
- Calling Scott Mr Hunter and interpreting "that better just be ginger ale rook" literally
- Interpreting "where's your boy Rozanov?" literally
- Taking Ilyas "I go home in three days" at face value and missing the subtext
- I'll see you next season 'extends hand'
Obviously, not all these behaviours are exclusive to autistic people. But, the way Shane executes all these things is most certainly austisic.
