as a woman in the ozempics era you HAVE to have friends who eat normally (3-4 meals a day, no girl dinner bullshit) and who are always down to going to cafes and eating burguers and fries and stuff, I cannot stress how vital for your mental health it is to have friends with whom you feel free to say you're hungry at any time and with whom you feel free to eat as much as you want
One thing I haven't seen discussed a lot is WHY Yuna goes outside at that moment. I have seen people posit that she is overwhelmed, that she is angry at Shane, or angry at Ilya, or angry at the situation in general. I can tell you, as a mother myself, that woman is angry at HERSELF. She is livid, completely livid, that she could have given her child even the smallest amount of evidence that she wouldn't be okay with his sexuality. And then to have him try to tell her that he TRIED TO CHANGE HIMSELF in order to make her happy, that anger turns immediately to sadness, to regret that she was thinking for one second about herself when this is about Shane. And when he forgave her, I don't think she forgave herself, which is why she went immediately into PR mode. That wasn't about greed or selfishness, it was about "How can I fix this horrible mistake I have made" in the only way she knew how.
I get watching shane turn his head to smile at ilya while CARRYING THE PUCK. DURING A GAME annoys and enrages people from a hockey perspective. I watch A LOT of sports. too many sports. so I get it.
but from a writing and storytelling perspective it's delicious. it's the narrative literally punishing shane for letting himself indulge. for letting himself figuratively (and in this scene literally) get distracted for once. he's paying so much attention to ilya and their relationship off of the ice and it's a reminder to us and to him that they are in a HOSTILE environment and that they aren't in a safe space. that shane has dedicated his entire life and all of his time and energy to hockey and ONLY hockey. and he’s always made sure every decision he makes (from the books he reads to the insane fucking diet he maintains to the personal and professional image he’s worked so hard to cultivate) is the right one to benefit his hockey career. to keep him at the top of his game and the top of the league and to never give anyone any reason to question whether or not he belongs there. and the one time he lets his personal life bleed into his hockey and distract him FOR ONE SECOND it wrecks him. literally. and not only that, ilya had to WATCH IT HAPPEN and reckon with having real life, very serious consequences of their actions. he is forced to face the fact that whatever it is they are to each other is bleeding through to hockey - to their lives outside of hotel rooms and each others houses - and that he cares about shane A LOT. that seeing some guy he’s been hooking up with get hurt like that shouldn’t ABSOLUTELY TERRIFY HIM the way that it does if all they’re doing is sleeping together.
idk I could probably write a whole essay about this but I don't want to go off like that on something where I'm in the COMPLETE MINORITY.

hbrowne24 The role that hockey plays in my life shifts with each life change, but it’s always there and I’m so grateful to it.
From being welcomed when I come out in the pros, to the hockey community rallying behind my first film @.…pinklight.film, to now the epic reception for @heatedrivalrycrave - hockey just keeps coming back to me when I need it the most.
When I first got into acting I thought I had to leave hockey and my identity as an athlete fully behind to move on. But when I embraced hockey fully as something to add to my artistic pursuits, things started to click for me in this next phase of my life.
So to those who have been with me since the NWHL days or just joining in on the ride now: thank you for the support and championing trans athletes/stories… we need you now more than ever.
