I don’t know how to fully express this but I’m a middle aged American who came into my queerness in the early 90s and hungrily devoured every bit of queer-related pop culture no matter how crappy or paltry, for DECADES grateful for any and every bit of representation, not even daring to ask for more, and then about 15 months ago I discovered BL (and soon after GL), and now my social feeds are full of expressions of same-sex affection and flirting, and I feast every day on as much queer content as I want, and I don’t give a fuck that it was a genre created for and enjoyed by straight folks or that most of these actors are straight and doing it for a paycheck, they are giving me LIFE.
Since last year gave me a taste of Japanese BL, I’ve decided to keep watching the new ones and I started “Countdown to Yes”.
I have to admit, I didn’t know how I would feel about this story. I’m not a fan of friends who realize that their relationship is more than friendship. I guess I have a huge bias against these stories because they seem to say friendship isn’t enough and that only love is important. I felt they were trying to push the idea that love is more important than friendship. Most of the time, what these characters are living as a hidden romance is how I believe friendships should always be. Anyway, I decided not to let my own distorted vision of it ruin the fun.
Minato and Wataru became friends in highs chool over the shared interest of photography. They were inseparable and they keep being together while in university. They even shared a room and spent most of their time together. One day, Minato had to move because of his job and that’s when Wataru finally realized he had deeper feelings for his “friend”. He really embodied this idea that sometimes you can only understand the importance of something or someone until it’s gone in your life.
The whole first episode is presenting the characters, their relationship and the settings of the story. The many time skips show in a very efficient way how their bond became tighter and why this relationship is so important. I also understand why Wataru may be the one who will not accept easily to switch their relationship from friends to lovers. I think he is so afraid of losing Minato because of these few years they were apart that he will cling to friendship. As if it was safer to be friends. However, their relationship was never only friendship. It has always been something more. Denying it won’t change it.
Wataru probably feels like love in life is temporary whil friendship is forever. As for me, I believe, friendship is just another form of love and it can be as strong as romantic love. Perhaps, he wrongly thinks that he will keep their relationship/love forever if they stay friends. Minato will have to teach him or show him that he shouldn’t cling to this false idea. If Minato didn’t leave at that point, maybe Watary would never have truly understand the value of their relationship and what it means to him. It was his turning point to truly understand what matters in his life. He shouldn’t be afraid of his feelings. I can’t wait for him to see that their three years of separation wasn’t truly a loss, but an opportunity to see the unseen.
I’m curious to see how everything will play out.
Oh, I guess there’s a rumour Leng and August Vachiravit will be in the BL remake of Love Destiny together? I don’t know how much stock to put in it with Leng currently with GMMTV (I know their artists make shows/films with other companies, but idk about a lead role in a BL?), but it’s later here so I can’t do much digging and, frankly, I don’t know how lol
But they did post some matchy matchy photos today (see also here) and the silhouette on the poster does look a bit like Leng. Some discussion about it all here on Reddit too
(If this is all just baseless, I apologise very much! XD)
Leng and August’s igs (L from Leng, R from August):
Leng also posted a story that was just black with 🤫🤫🤫 on it after the tennis pics

It would appear Leng is definitely ship-launching with August.
And August has now confirmed his participation with the production company in his bio.
So if all this comes to fruition without Leng leaving gmmtv, it’ll mark the first time a gmmtv actor is working in a koojin for a BL series outside the company.

Someone ought to study how well Oxygen the series can put you to sleep. For music, it has a strange a-melodic harp motif like a music box lullaby. Then, as if they’re made from model magic clay, characters and performances are formed into shapes rounder and softer than reality—effortlessly restrained into gently starched expressions. Restrained by what though? Maybe by time passing slowly across emotional distances. Not even the comedic side couples or the dramatic moments of violence seem to escape the dream-like haze of the series’ tone. That is, until Gui’s sobs, some of the rawest sounds I’ve heard in my BL watching, tear through the fluff. Then the calm returns. A tired embrace after a long ceremony. Time keeps moving.
Whether you enjoy the series or not might depend on how much you agree that grief feels like a small cloud floating alone in a blue sky, or on how fragile a glass of milk can seem to you. At any moment, a careless elbow or timid grip could leave it shattered, spilled, its tiny act of care lost. Would tears well up in your eyes?

I was telling my wife I came up with a pen name for my smut and she was trying to guess it and I jokingly said “Harry Balls” (which is NOT my pen name) and she has latched onto it for dear life. She can’t stop talking about Harry Balls (she’s decided his full name is Harold Q. Balls) and making up this whole persona and backstory for him. I think the ICE occupation is driving us mad.
BE MY ANGEL
“When "Jane” hit rock bottom in her first job, her luck completely ran out. She used up all her saved merit points and prayed desperately, hoping for a job, money, and love… But instead, heaven sent her “Z” — a low-rank angel who’s hopeless at everything — as her replacement gift. How will this confusing relationship that started so awkwardly slowly blossom into a real bond?“

I get that there was much to love and argue over in that last episode but WHY NO GOING CRAZY OVER THE NLMG CALLBACK IN THE BREAKFAST SCENE?!
Neung hated the big breakfast in Never Let Me Go and Palm couldn’t do anything about that. But Thee knew Peach would hate it and he COULD do something about it.
One of my favorite moments in a banger episode!
