Bass Reeves | Dilophosaurus

Since the theme for my snail mail club this month is the Wild West, I thought I’d also do some extra illustrations based around that! This one features Bass Reeves, who was a very accomplished lawman; he's credited with over 3,000 arrests and is likely the inspiration for the (whitewashed) Lone Ranger.

I haven’t gotten the chance to read it yet, but if you’re interested in learning more, there’s Black Gun, Silver Star: The Life and Legend of Frontier Marshal Bass Reeves by Art T. Burton!!

Redeemed AU - Basically if the Saja Boys got redeemed at the end/not killed off.

Took some inspo from Swoop's KPDH video on youtube, but basically in this AU, Abby decides to retire from music and becomes an artist instead (specifically ceramics and sculpting). Also based on the movie (even if it's more of a visual gag) it seems that he might have some inclination to the arts so I wanted to play into it.

Day 19: Plesiosaurus

Sea reptile chases fish in kindly style This monster is real amiable sort of freak, just keeping pace.

Has very wide smile.

[img id] Digital cel-shaded artwork of a plesiosaur at the end of a failed lunge to catch one of ten fish. The plesiosaurus is giant, whale-like, with its vertical tail poised upwards in the seawater, and its head brushing the sandy seafloor. Clouds of disturbed sand float around the plesiosaur’s head, long neck, and fin. This plesiosaur was drawn from the more modern idea that giant sea animals have a lot of blubber. This means its neck starts out as thick as its belly and then tapers, evenly, to the width of its narrow head. The fish being hunted are yellow, with red heads and purple rainbow fins. The whole scene takes place on an isometric chunk of seafloor, during a sunset that stains the sand and rocks violet-pink. Red corals perch on a corner of sea rock nearby. A sad little fish skeleton can be seen buried in the sand. [/id]

I was recently very unsatisfied with my Tieraltsh, and Gorune designs. So I decided to give them a bit of and update :). Gorune still look mostly similar to their old design, and only have a few changes. Such as their hands, hooves, and head structure. But Tieraltsh are no longer as closely related to them as before! Tieraltsh split off further back in the evolutionary line with Gorune.

Eskab and Jezatim populations of Tieraltsh are isolated to two small islands due to previous wayfarer groups who managed to get themselves stuck. The Simliea population lives on the mainland of Fimba and have a larger pool of biodiversity. These populations are mostly in the north end of the continent because they do not enjoy passing through the massive desert south of them. Some small (often young and considered crazy) groups may migrate around it though. :) Simliea tieraltsh often mingle with Diakar gorune due to their close proximity!

Both species communicate primarily through signing, grunts, and chips. Some groups have fine tuned their chirps to sound like words in order to communicate with traders, and other oisnnuk. Almost every herd has a specially trained individual who interprets and translates. (Eskab and Jezatim do not carry on this tradition due to their isolation.)

I also updated the species to have a bit of sexual dimorphism. Males have thick whiskers above their noses and a musk gland that is active during certain times of the year. Females have beards, a thick beard indicates good health.
