All foreign films/shows should have two subtitle options. A localized one that better serves the original intent of the story and dialogue and a more literal one that awkwardly translates phrases in a preserved state, specifically for perverts who want to learn the language (me)
Ideally subtitles would take up about a third of the entire screen, consisting of the written dialogue in the original language, a literal translation in English, and a localized translation. "That sounds terrible and inconvenient" NOT EVERYTHING IS FOR YOU. SOME THINGS CAN BE 4 ME
I’ve already talked about prudents specific origins several times so this time I will expand it to more inspirations that have amassed over the years cause there are a lot!!
originally I came up with her while listening to love and truth by mother mother when I was in high school; I pictured the song being sung by some miserable girl in an old timey cartoon. her current design is pretty much exactly the same as it was the first time I drew her, I really got a hole in one with her.
there was more of a 1930s old cartoons/hollywood vision at first (like betty boop) but overtime the setting slid back a few decades. aesthetically utpr is based in a victorian gothic setting, but the characters and overall vibe fit in a lot better with that 2000s “creepy-cute” cartoon vibe. that was the era of ruby gloom, growing up creepie, edgar & allen, the tim burton/henry selick movies and all that.
I also associate her a lot with the music of black dresses, especially devi mccallion’s side of things. some of it already fit prudence to a T and some of it informed her character further, it’s hard to say which is which at this point.
crona from soul eater and ienaga from golden kamuy are two favorite anime characters that I’ve retroactively realized shared similarities with pudence and I think may have inspired her character on a subconscious level. and generally speaking I have always loved female characters that are weird, socially awkward, anxious, and misanthropic. which could mean nothing

well I think it’s pretty clear prudy is a necromancer and angel would be a paladin. idk about oleander…. bard cause they like art and literature?

lets see … if physically attacked….. prudence would reach for the nearest object to smash it over the head of her assailant and then run away and hide. oleander would try to protect themselves and flee but wouldn’t go for the offensive. angel would beat a motherfucker up lol

NOTHING. she is the worlds most unemployed girl she had no job then and would have no job now. but if she did have a job it would be minimum wage cashier at wendys or something

they’re a lover not a fighter ……….. i can imagine that they might have received fencing or archery lessons at some point though I can see them doing some archery maybe

HELL no. if you did that to angel it would tell you to kill yourself and go back to sleep. ok if it was prudence calling it would tell her to kill herself and then go back to sleep for a little bit but then eventually get up and go help her. but it would be complaining the whole time
