Avelo Airlines cuts ties with ICE, ends deportation flights - al.com

Avelo Airlines, the only commercial carrier believed to have been operating full deportation flights on a regular basis for the Trump administration, is ending its relationship with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and will no longer charter those deportations.

The budget carrier signed an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security in April 2025 to operate ICE flights out of Arizona, drawing immediate protests and calls to boycott.

At the time, the airline acknowledged the decision may be controversial but said it was expected to support company expansion and job protection. However, after less than a year since inking the deal, Avelo has admitted that the program became too costly and complex to continue.

CEO Andrew Levy acknowledged the backlash in an email to employees late Tuesday.

“We moved a portion of our fleet into a government program which promised more financial stability but placed us in the center of a political controversy,” Levy wrote in the email, obtained by CNBC.

“The program provided short-term benefits but ultimately did not deliver enough consistent and predictable revenue to overcome its operational complexity and costs.” (aph)

Every single person I know who did football in high school, without exception, has a chronic injury. Many regret what it’s done to their knees and back, even major organs like the brain.

There is no serious legislative push to ban high school football.

Also, like, if you want to talk about social pressure on minors to undertake activities that will result in regrettable, irreversible damage to their bodies:

No one, *ever*, tried to persuade me to transition.

My gym teacher tried to persuade me to try out for the football team almost every single day that I was in junior high.

#i firmly believe that the reason why concussions and brain damage in general#are not taken nearly as seriously as they should be#is because of football#if we take concussions and brain trauma seriously then we have to acknowledge the risks that children are undertaking at even#high school level football#but we can’t do that#because the kids need to play football in high school so they can play football in college so they can join the NFL#This time I’m really gonna queue it.

I’ve been giving this writing advice to a lot of my friends lately so I’ll do a mumbling post about it here.

You gotta play dolls with your characters.

Slap them in AUs, make silly fanfiction, make “what if?” senarios. You gotta recreate the feeling of taking your toys out as a kid and improv-ing a story on the spot. You’ll get a sense of what makes them who they are outside of their main storyline.

Take a piece of yourself, expand and explore upon it. Create characters and storylines that are love letters to those you’ve cared most about. Take that little ball of hate and/or despair and give yourself a little therapy lesson.

Be bored! Be frustrated! Be unsatisfied! “Someone should make a story about ___” YOU should make that story! If you aren’t satisfied with the media you see, make for yourself the story you DO want to see! Don’t worry about how others will view it. For right now, for right at the beginning, the only way you’re gonna make progress is if you’re having a bit of fun.

LITERALLY YES!

I’ve been able to explore alot of my characters this way, be they personal writing projects I wanna get off the ground, or even dnd things!

Cannot overstate it enough that doing aus helps you look at a character from every angle imaginable!

Putting my ocs in their own AUs, even just to ponder on it and not actually write anything, has helped me figure out their canon stories! Sometimes the concepts of the AUs are more interesting than the canon, but for various reasons I cannot simply abandon or change the canon in order to do the AU as a main story (a lot of my AUs are just me shoving my ocs into the roles of other well known stories and characters, like direct fairytale retellings or superhero comics) so I have to stop and ask myself “why are the AUs exciting in a way the canon is not?” And then alter the canon to have these more exciting elements.

Why is my throuple story more fun when I put them into all these other stories? The root seems to be that one character in particular ends up with a more abusive famoly situation and gets a damsel in distress role in most of the AUs, while the canon was lacking that tension. Solution: get their abusive birth family more involved in the canon version instead of just blissfully shoving them into a background element where they have no influence on the plot.

Why is my trans woman x bird man couple so interesting in the AUs? Because they meet as adults when bird dude can no longer hide his supernatural connections. Can’t force that into my canon though, I like their dynamic as childhood friends and too many story details would have to be scrapped if I changed it. But I can perhaps emphasize how badly he and his wife are trying to ignore the supernatural connections and drive up the tension to a breaking point.

Etc.

Put those ocs in situations and analyze the results! You never know what you’ll discover

I identify the most with the woman who has a green velvet ribbon around her neck and keeps being like “DONT untie my neck ribbon or something really bad will happen” and then her husband unties the ribbon and her head falls off. this is extremely real to me. spent my whole life like “please don’t do this thing to me or really bad stuff will happen” and everyone around me being like “that sounds fake” and doing it anyway. and then my head fell off!
