I love a good found family- oh.

Redo of an older one, since I wanted to clean up all the comics I have that are still in the WIP phase.

I will never have to draw that accursed lute again.

I had this comic drawn for so long that I actually rewrote the ending because I had enough time to realize the original made no sense. Shoutout to @themornal for the suggestions with that final panel!

I have a question. Is Eggs'chestplate actually cracked from use, or is it decorated to look that way?

So this is a bit of lore, but the cracks are decorative and they are added to the armour as accolades (this is a tradition in his family specifically). It’s meant to show off hardships/overcome difficulties.

So Eggs is relatively new to his position so his armor is minorly cracked. The higher the position in rank the better the decoration, for example, the cracks can be inlaid with gold (which ends up looking a little like runny yolk). This was an idea that I was playing around with anyways.

What is a princess without her loyal knight/babysitter?

The breakfast characters are super cute!!

Are you planning on making this a webseries? or are you looking for funding?

I have a pilot written and rigs built for animation, but engagement is super low, so I’m gunna probably go back to writing the comic. It’s my fault for dropping the ball, I’ve just been really depressed and the comic is such a large undertaking. But I don’t want to give up on the project either.

I took a pretty long break from Breakfast so I have to remember how to draw my own character.

Sometimes when a princess says “we’re gunna dance” you just have to indulge her.

Halfway through sketching these I realized that the little braids make a star using the negative space. Love it!

This character design is so good I want to eat it

Posting more WIPs, maybe I’ll get to animating them eventually.

Gunna be posting some breakfast WIPs here. Even if they don’t get animated, I just want to share so that I can get motivated to start animating again.

Heyyy! I just wanted to say your world an your characters are gorgeous and fun and it’s such a blast following you and having your art pop up on my dash with regularity :) Your work is amazing!

If I may, do you have any advice to offer for developing character designs and making things feel cohesive?

I am not really good at character design, I would not say it’s one of my strong suits. But the advice I can give that I used for myself while redesigning my comic is to put your characters in grey scale to check the tones. For example, Eggs here went some colour changes to create more visual interest/contrast. But sometimes you don’t see the values until you put the design in greyscale.

The other thing I can say is about the colour identity of the character. When I was redesigning my characters I wanted to give them one colour that would represent them. Sometimes colours can be used to indicate the relationship between characters, or have deeper meaning in regards to their status (Think like how royalty would wear deep hues or purples). My main character wears blue in contrast to the warmer colours because she is meant to stand out, while still having red/gold elements to tie her to the other main characters.

Or everyone is coloured like food and I didn’t put any thought into it.

After two years of feeling like creating was impossible for me to continue, I’ve finally finished redrawing/rewriting the first chapter of my comic, updating it with the new designs. I’m feeling so much better about the direction of the comic now, please give it a read!
