Claire Bear Season 4

I just finished watching The Bear season 4 and I have so many feelings. I liked it as a whole. Was it my favorite? No. But are there many moments that stole my heart? Yes. (Richie comforting Fak and calling him beautiful made me laugh and then sob.) The cast continues to be absolutely brilliant though. Every single one of them.

But i had to come on here and write something about my girl Claire Bear bc she continuously faces such undeserved hate. I get it. You guys want syd and carm together and apparently Claires in the way. But i dont think she is?? Regardless. Claire's great. People keep trying to manipulate/read scenes in a light tht makes her out to be such a negative person. When she's actually reinforced to be a very good person and a positive person that everyone genuinely likes. She's brought in time and time again to push Carmy's character forward by forcing him to face his feelings and his fear of not deserving anything good in his life.

Carmy has called Claire "peace" in an earlier season. Then in this season when they ask Carm what he's afraid of, he goes "what's the opposite of chaos?" and Claire (and no one else) answers "peace" and he looks at her and smiles (so softly i could cry). That was the show very much throwing in our face that Claire remains as the last bit of peace in his life and continues to be so scared of it because he grew up in such a chaotic family, he chose a career where the work environment is quite literally chaos, and he very much thrives in that chaos. So the peace and quiet scare him. He doesn't know what to do with himself. The peace means he has to confront/acknowledge his thoughts. Claire is also a character who holds him accountable and makes him confront his feelings. She doesn't let him run from them.

He comes to the wedding because of her, he sits under the table because of her, he's pushed to actually go in and meet his mom because of her and her motivation/kind words. He tries because of her. He tells her about how he hurt himself after he got news of mikey passing, which is huge for him because carmy obviously doesnt open up often. And because she makes a somewhat risky joke afterwards to lighten the mood ppl are convinced shes sick and doesnt respect carmy's pain. The show is literally filled with uncensored jokes. That's just the overall dynamic.

I can understand people just wanting syd and carmy to be together. But i don't think that's the story this show is trying to tell? I just don't understand the utter hatred people have for a character that is blatantly written to be good and kind and peaceful and just overall good vibes. I also happen to be of the opinion that they have such good chemistry? They're always leaning into each other and sending each other little smirks. Carmy literally doesn't smile like that with anyone else on the show. When she's around he doesn't seen anything else. And frankly, it's adorable.

Convenience isn't bad because of some inherent value in toil or it rots your soul. Convenience is bad because it often comes at the cost of an exploited underclass. I don't care if someone wants to taxi their meal to their house instead of making it themselves or even driving to the restaurant themselves. I care that meal delivery apps underpay their workers (they don't even consider them their workers), provide no workplace protections, and prey on their desperation.

The desire for convenience is a morally neutral thing (no matter how many capitalists want their workers to see unproductivity or aversion to the "grind" as a moral failing). Companies that sell you only convenience by making it worse for yourself and for others are not.

It's so fucking baffling to me that hospitals went back to not masking. Like good news, we have lots of empirical evidence that masking prevents infections! Now to go back to walking around this absolute petri dish of a building filled with extremely vulnerable people unmasked

i was at the doctor yesterday and the nurse who took my blood pressure asked while i was masking and i explained how i had a sore throat and a runny nose and while i didnt feel sick i didnt want to risk anything for anyone and she acted so surprised as if that was a crazy generous thing to do but then talked about how she got tested for the flu and was like “there wasn't anything i could do about it though” and just went about her life without a mask she was better at that point but i was like what ma'am you are a nurse anyways it felt weird because it was like she was telling us not to mask
