hi! always love answering random questions!
1) it's fun!! I love being behind the scenes in theater, and I love that I can now point out a specific subset of things that most people never notice. It's a lot of long hours and also weird hours, which can be annoying but at least it's never boring. Most of what I end up doing is hanging lights and running cables, but my favorite parts are programming and running the spotlight :D
2) oh man. my favorite topic. i've talked... extensively... about Scott's kindness, which is no questions my favorite thing about him, but because you said "interesting" and not "favorite," i'm gonna give you a different answer.
I am forever captivated by his sense of responsibility. it is actually one of the things that frustrates me most about the show's writing, but it's one of the biggest things that draws me to Wanting To Write About Him. because once he gets bitten and gets werewolf powers, he almost immediately feels responsible for protecting everyone (spiderman is never directly quoted, but it's hard not to feel the spirit of "with great power comes great responsibility"), and as a result of that, he also holds himself responsible when he "fails" at that self-appointed duty.
which is ridiculous, because he's 16. by the end of the show he has been a werewolf for not even three years. everyone that should have protected Scott failed him, and he has to step up because no one else will.
but the show never pushes back on this concept. narratively this is framed as a Correct and True belief that Scott should have about himself, and frankly it's to the detriment of characters like Stiles and Melissa who should, as Scott's closest support system, push back against it. As Scott's mother, Melissa should be the one reminding him that he's just a kid (her kid) and saving the world shouldn't be his responsibility, but multiple times (2x11 Battlefield, 5x10 Status Asthmaticus) she's the one telling him that he Has to do something (Status Asthmaticus is particularly egregious, Scott just actually died and is in tears practically begging for any measure of comfort from his MOM, and her answer is to remind him that he's a leader and he has to fix this)
and Stiles. sigh. Stiles often actively takes a hand in punishing Scott for his perceived failures (1x06 Heart Monitor, and the three episodes following Status Asthmaticus). Which is a hella interesting dynamic!! it's a huge character flaw for Stiles and it adds this complexity to their friendship that would be so fun... if the show didn't validate Stiles's unreasonable anger and Scott's unreasonable guilt at every turn.
okay I got a little sidetracked. the POINT is that Scott has this very strong sense of personal responsibility that is consistently validated by the narrative and surrounding characters, and I think that's really the thing that drew me to him to the point of being as obsessed as I am. I critique the show and support critiques of the show that point this out as a flaw in the writing, because it is, and I wish that anyone in canon ever had said "hey. Scott. this is not your fault. this should not be your responsibility. the expectations being placed on you are So Fucking Unfair and it sucks" BUT i do also have to admit that I think the failures of the narrative are part of the reason he's so compelling to me.
idk man. i am so sorry this got longer than you were probably anticipating, you happened to unlock a rant i've been mulling over for a couple days 😂😂 I just. im love him!!! i think he's so neat!!! my favoritest boy forever and ever
