do y'all think that barbara's situation is an allegory for chronic illness and chronic pain? being praised for so much output despite how much pain she's going through? despite how visibly she's constantly suffering? and yet susanna calls it a "beautiful thing" for her to be outputting so much soot for shadows house. despite how much barbie has to berate her to help her. despite how cruelly she's being treated. i just think that it's all so relatable when you think about it.

"if they dispose of us together, i couldn't ask for more." that line from rosemary hurts me. the implication that she is nothing without her shadow master; despite knowing the truth, she still needs to stay by maryrose's side. she will go anywhere with her, even if it means that they will both die.
