New pinned post!

Hey guys, I’m PitViperOfDoom, writer of things! I wrote that one fic where Izuku can see ghosts. I also wrote a wealth of other fanfictiony things, which you can find on my AO3.

The tag I use for all of my stories is Tales from the Pit. It contains links to my fics on AO3, as well as original stories I’ve posted here on Tumblr. You may have read the one about the Bronze Age rabbits, or the time-traveling married couple. One of my main story universes, at least that I’ve talked about on here, is the SDverse, featuring my two special boys.

You can also find me on Bluesky, where I occasionally post and repost things I like.

I have a Ko-Fi, and I’m currently hard at work building up enough of a backlog of original work to comfortably start a Patreon, so stay tuned!

I love animation history and one of the things that always baffled me was how did animators draw the cars in 101 Dalmatians before the advent of computer graphics?

Any rigid solid object is extremely challenging for 2D artists to animate because if one stray line isn’t kept perfectly in check, the object will seem to wobble and shift unnaturally.

Even as early as the mid 80’s Disney was using a technique where they would animate a 3D object and then apply a 2D filter to it. This practice could be applied to any solid object a character interacts with: from lanterns a character is holding, to a book (like in Atlantis), or in the most extreme cases Cybernetic parts (like in Treasure Planet).

But 101 Dalmatians was made WAY before the advent of this technology. So how did they do the Cruella car chase sequence at the end of the film?

The answer is so simple I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me sooner:

They just BUILT the models and painted them white with black outlines 🤣

That was the trick. They’re not actually 2D animated, they’re stop motion. They were physical models painted white and filmed on a white background. The black outlines become the lineart lines and they just xeroxed the frame onto an animation cel and painted it like any other 2D animated frame.

That’s how they did it! Isn’t that amazing? It’s such a simple low tech solution but it looks so cool in the final product.

@transparent-plastic-robotgirl check it out

omg that’s cool as heck!!! 🌸

got told at lunch “you feel like Tumblr Incarnate” and i had to tell them i’ve been here for 13 years and counting. i was here three years before dashcon happened. i saw the mishapocalypse. i survived the gigapause. i’ve been here longer than the shoelaces post. i’ve been here since it was hipsters versus fandom and i played both sides extensively by overdoing the sepia filters on everything and making my own flashing galaxy gif edits for my fandom posts. i’m every tumblr. it’s all in me

Oh ancient one what wisdom do you hold?

  • 99% of callout posts are bullshit and just petty personal drama someone is escalating to get even on a grudge. do not engage with these, do not freelance as a cop
  • DNIs do not work. accept this. internalize that people you don’t like will see your posts and engage with them. this is unavoidable and the sooner you make peace with it the freer your mind will be. block the freaks and don’t sweat the small stuff
  • building a tight knit circle of fellow weirdos who vibe with your particular quirks and taste is infinitely more rewarding and sustainable than chasing the biggest numbers
  • don’t respond to bad-faith arguments or bad takes; just block people, blacklist tags, filter post content, and move on. don’t feed the trolls (or the bigots)
  • don’t hate-follow
  • don’t tag your hate (ex. if you’re posting about how much you hate a ship, don’t tag it as that ship, etc.)
  • don’t feel obligated to keep following someone who posts stuff that upsets/depresses/angers/bores you just because you know them really well, or because you’re mutuals, or because you used to like what they post. following is nothing personal and neither is unfollowing
  • op doesn’t know you; avoid parasocial relationships
  • don’t pick fights or reblog posts just to disagree/argue
  • spread joy and positivity in your circles
  • disable anonymous asks

my corner store guy is a 50 year old man who’s my best friend in the world and recently he was like “you’re too pretty to be single I have some nephews you should meet. very handsome!” and I was like “a niece might be more up my alley” and he just got more excited and said “ah even better! I was overselling my nephews but my nieces are very beautiful”

OP the tags!!

ICE has profiled and detained at least 5 Native people in Minneapolis in the past 2 weeks. One man has been identified and released, but the other four were unhoused and have yet to be located.

I once had a plan to read at least one classic novel from (almost) every country, I keep forgetting about it but I really should do it, I usually end up enjoying them

Anyone has any non-western recommendations?

This was getting a bit out of hand with people sending asks instead of commenting, so I compiled everything that was sent to me under the cut. The rest of the recommendations are in the comments as usual. Thank you all for the recs!

Ok, inspired by @toadlett, I started compiling these in a google doc

And I saw that there are many lists online of a similar kind, but as I’m mostly interested in classical literature rather than modern, and also as I’d like to prioritize the books that have been recommended to me rather than ones I find online, I’ll continue to curate this list. Thank you again! ☺️

Anything the media says that you disagree with is an obvious conspiracy, and anything they say that you agree with is clearly factual.

As we speak of Renee Nicole Good, let’s remember Silverio Villegas González who was also shot and killed by ICE agents while in his vehicle, then ICE made claims that differed from video evidence. Let’s remember Marimar Martinez who survived after being shot at by ICE five times, but then had to fight against felony charges that were based on claims that differed from video evidence. Let’s remember Jaime Alanis, Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez and Josué Castro Rivera who all died as a result of ICE raids.

Let’s remember everyone that we know of who died in ICE custody due to neglect and “undetermined causes” in this past year alone. Again, these are the deaths that we know of:

Genry Ruiz Guillén, Serawit Gezahegn Dejene, Maksym Chernyak, Juan Alexis Tineo-Martinez, Brayan Garzón-Rayo, Nhon Ngoc Nguyen, Marie Ange Blaise, Abelardo Avellaneda, Jesus Molina-Veya, Johnny Noviello, Isidro Pérez, Tien Xuan Phan, Chaofeng Ge, Lorenzo Antonio Batrez Vargas, Oscar Rascon Duarte, Santos Banegas Reyes, Ismael Ayala-Uribe, Norlan Guzman-Fuentes, Miguel Ángel García Medina, Huabing Xie, Leo Cruz-Silva, Hasan Ali Moh’D Saleh, Gabriel Garcia Aviles, Kai Yin Wong, Francisco Gaspar-Andrés, Pete Sumalo Montejo, Shiraz Fatehali Sachwani, Jean Wilson Brutus, Fouad Saeed Abdulkadir, Delvin Francisco Rodriguez and Nenko Stanev Gantchev.

You can read their stories here:

Remember Keith Porter, who was shot and killed by an off-duty ICE agent that involved himself in a situation that he wasn’t trained or qualified for, and then made claims that witnesses dispute.

Luis David Nico Moncada and Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras were both shot in their vehicle during a Border Patrol traffic stop. They were taken to the hospital after seeking help from the police, and their current condition is unknown.
