Cover Bracket - The Phantom Preliminary!
Which version of Nightwish’ The Phantom of the Opera do you like best?
Studio Album version (Tarja + Marko)
Live at Hartwell Arena 2005 (Tarja + Marko)
Beste Zangers version by Floor & Henk Poort
And yes, technically the band Nightwish doesn’t play on the last version, but it is a metal version the show’s band plays and Floor was already part of the band by that point, so I’m counting it as a Nightwish version.

Evanescence, live in Toronto, ON, Canada (09/03/2023).

symphonic-power-metal-bracket:
(Bonus) Symphonic/Power Metal Cover Bracket!
Welcome to this bonus tournament where we are looking for the best cover song in the Symphonic/Power Metal genre. Since this is a bonus tournament, the winner will not compete in the final bracket (unlike the winners of the artist-specific tournaments).
Which songs are allowed for this tournament?
- The cover song has to be in the symphonic metal or power metal genre (or both). It can be a combination with another genre (for example folk) as well, as long as it also fits (one of) the aforementioned genres.
- The original song (that is covered) can be any genre.
- Songs based on classical/instrumental pieces are allowed as long as the original song is recognizable throughout the entire cover song, and not just a demo is used.
- Vocal covers (where the music is the original) are also allowed, as long as it’s not as a guest vocalist on the original artist’s track.
- Songs that have been in tournaments before can be submitted again for this tournament, no matter how far they’ve come in their respective tournaments.
Which songs are not allowed?
- Self-covers/other versions of the same song by the original artist. (example: Bête du Gévaudan by Powerwolf)
- Versions by the original artist with a guest vocalist. (example: Call of the Wild by Powerwolf featuring Hansi Kürsch)
- Versions of pre-existing (folk) songs that have no clear original artist.
Other rules
- Do not submit the same cover more than once. This is considered spamming and can get the song disqualified. (Two different covers of the same song are fine though!)
- Submit as many different covers as you like!
- You can submit as many covers per artist as you like, but there will be a max of 4 songs per artist allowed into the bracket. If necessary, there will be prelims, but it would be advisable to only submit your top favorites per artist (instead of like… 30).
- Live versions (as well as other specific versions) are allowed, but if both a live and a studio version exist, they will be counted as two different songs. Make sure you tell me if you want a specific version (live/acoustic/etc) of a cover.
Do you have any questions about whether a song counts or not, or why a certain rule exists?
Check here if your question has been asked before! (if not, feel free to send an ask)
Read the rules? Great! Submit your covers here!
Submissions will be open until the 18th of January 2026 (unless I get overwhelmed or underwhelmed by submissions).
