Hi, everyone! You might have noticed I've been a little less active this weekend. Early Friday morning, an ice storm knocked over a tree next to our house and took out a power line with it. Unfortunately, increasing outages in the area and continuing bad weather have meant that our power is still out and the latest estimate for restoring it is tomorrow morning. I'm not optimistic, considering how many times that estimate has changed and the further ice, snow and winds that are expected through tomorrow. So we've had no lights or heat and have only been able to use minimal water for the past two and a half days!
We spent the first night at home, and it was awful. We decided to get a hotel last night and again tonight. (This is obviously a luxury, but a lot of our options for people to stay with have also lost power!) Due to the ice, we also have a bunch of branches falling down in our yard now and can only hope that none of them damage the house. We've also had to pay to order food and buy supplies. Luckily, we have enough of a savings cushion that we've been able to afford it in the short term, but it's definitely going to be felt in the long term.
This isn't necessarily a "donations" post because I know we're a lot better off than lots of people and we're going to come out okay in the end. But I also thought this might be a good time to set up a Ko-fi page. I've been averse to it because I hardly feel like I'm owed financial support from anyone here and I'm never going to charge for anything I post. But this seems like the most low pressure option of them all, and if you have the means and desire now would be a particularly good time to consider sending a dollar or two my way! Any support I receive will go towards credit card expenses for this and future unexpected life circumstances. I love and appreciate all of you, and I hope to be back in front of my game soon! 😭
