if vampires existed in real life i think there would be shady companies advertising "organic blood" sourced from "willing donors" who are coincidentally all poor people being paid like $5 per blood donation. and like haughty vegan vampires who only drink a synthetic blood drink thats brewed in a way thats actively worse for the enviroment. and radical traditionalist vampires who go on tiktok and claim that true alpha chads have to drain and kill people and anyone who leaves their victims alive is a liberal cuck. enter the world of hypothetical insufferable vampire politics with me.

love that feeling when you start reading a book and can immediately tell it's going to become a major part of your personality from now on

hey it’s ok if you lost your ai virginity back when you were uneducated. a lot of posts go like “reblog if you have never ever used generative ai and never ever will!!!” but it’s ok if you have used gen ai before and it’s even ok if you used to think it was cool, back before you understood what it really was and how it worked, either because no one had taught you about it and you discovered it on your own or because the only education you had received about it was from the tech bros. you’re not a burger with a bite out of it for having used ai. ok

It is 100 percent okay to stop using it today and join the "boo AI" club.

This isn't a purity thing. This is a "everyone stand with us against destroying the environment and giving asthma to poor people" thing.

Did you know that when one community says no to an AI data center, they specifically search out communities with fewer resources? Communities that can't defend themselves? And the pollution 100 percent affects their health and wellbeing, in addition to burning through our already scarce drinking water.

You can stop using character.ai today. You can say "I listened to the facts and stopped." And another thing: don't you think it's a bit more impactful to have used it, stopped, and then you're in a position to say how little it helped? How doing things for yourself improved your life?

also posts in the spirit of "if you've used AI even ONCE your soul is tainted!!!!" can't be great to those with OCD

y'all I used to mess with generative AI all the time back in like 2020-2021 before chatgpt was a thing and it generated entertaining nonsense

i had a paid subscription to inferkit for my amusement. it was a whole thing

Thing is. Since I played with LLM's back when they were in their early stages. I know how they work. specifically i am intimately aware of why they aren't, and can't be, "intelligent," and why there's no way they could possibly work well for the tasks they are being used for

you see, the earlier models offered sliders to manipulate the amount of "randomness" in the result and how the "randomness" was applied. Set the sliders low, you get endless loops of repeating words and sentences; set the sliders high, and you get nonsense gobbledeygook

furthermore, chatGPT has a sort of framing device where all the outputs are formatted in "person talking to another person" form; earlier models didn't use this and they just generated "more" of whatever you input

it made it very hard to miss that it is a statistically likely sentence assembling machine

Do you want to be politically pure in theory or help your neighbor. Is it fruitless to help your neighbor because there's no Perfect Pure way to do it ?

Honestly I would rather be politically pure. Your neighbors would never help you, so why help them?

Youre who this post is talking about. Individualism and elitism is not going to help the revolution and grassroots activism and mutual aid.

When the pandemic hit this old church lady joined our tattooed queer leftist mutual aid group bc her church soup kitchen closed. We shrugged and told her she was welcome as long as she didn't proselytize.

That woman never gendered me right once, but she shut up about Jesus long enough to feed people next to us bc she cared more about action than ideology. She also had a whole network of other church people who helped contribute $ to ingredients. We provided more and better meals together than in our "correct" silos

That's how any of us get out of any of this

The retirees who volunteer at my nonprofit have a wide variety of opinions, many of which I disagree with. But a) they still choose to give their time and labor to keep my org running, and b) when we were doing a school supply drive for local schools they got their families and churches involved and we had enough good, new, high quality backpacks and school supplies to deliver to hundreds of low-income students who otherwise wouldn't have them.

Also, how are you going to convince anybody to change their minds if you refuse to help or associate with them?

Y'know, one of the things I like about Tumblr compared to other social media sites is that old content is still in circulation. Which means that however much AI generated content is out there, at least I can glance at a post's timestamp and conclude that the cute cat video from 2017 is unlikely to be fake

people have said it before but if you read a lot of historical literature you do begin to just sort of think in that style of language. I’ll put down the 18th century journal I’m reading and have to resist the urge to send academic emails with every Noun capitalized and punctuated only by the profuse Usage of the Em-Dash — it is a deceptively challenging Instinct to resist, & worse is that Instinct when spelling certain Words to utilize what would, some Centuries prior, be an appropriate Spelling, excepting that my Correspondence occurs in the Twenty-First Century, where Men are inflexible and uncreative in their Methods, & this Propensity of mine would appear only foolish & incorrect, instead of suggesting what it in actuality reflects, which is that I am simply an Incorrigible Nerd — O! the Woes of modern Sociability! Why should I be compelled to conform to these d——d modern Conventions! Is it not enough to be unabashedly and impudently Autistic?
