wither roses, azure bluets, open eyeblossoms, closed eyeblossoms and tulips would be bad omens or insults too. because tulips make weakness stews, azure bluets and open eyeblossoms make blindness stews, closed eyeblossoms make nausea, and wither roses... well, they give you withering when you stand in them and when made into a stew.

meanwhile blue orchids and dandelions give you saturation, and alliums give fire resistance, so they could be meant as a compliment or given to mean you have the strength you need to get through something

what about the flowers you get from the sniffer?

torchflowers, alike poppies, give you night vision. they could mean something like you'll see something great in your future for poppies, or see/find something you missed/lost in your past for torchflowers. pitcher plants can't be made into a stew though.

not every flower can be made into a stew so those that can't have meanings unrelated to that mechanic.

pitcher plants are sooo interesting though because they craft into cyan dye. i'd argue cyan is the most valuable bc it requires green and dye to be crafted and green is one of the hardest dyes to get because it requires growing cacti and smelting them. and blue dye is, i'd argue valuable too, because its only cornflowers and lapis you can craft it from. not to mention the process of even obtaining a pitcher plant in the first place. they would most definently be seen as a compliment too, like "[something valuable]". probably most often paired with other flowers though.

and as someone mentioned in the notes, wither roses are most likely just an outright threat or act of violence considering theyre the only flower that is outright harmful to you without being crafted into anything

@puppygirl-official wanted to put this in the full thread too. i can definently see that & i think the language could also extend to other plants like saplings, leaves, and other flora.

a lot of it could be really dependant on context — one of my friends brought up that wither roses could also mean grief, because a wither has to kill something for you to get a wither rose, and i think it that depends on context because giving it to someone who doesnt know you seems like a threat, but giving it to someone you know in a specific context with other flowers could mean you're saying "sorry for your loss"

@fandoms-bandoms-andmentalissues ive already mentioned how it could be context dependant here in the full thread, but considering that wither roses damage you when you stand on them and the withering stew, i feel like in most contexts this probably wouldnt be the case. it'd be used more often out of malicious intent than it would any sort of good intent

my take on wither roses and their meanings, in-universe (some of these with the light astrick of "in my minecraft cosmology, i see withers as war machines):

• general meaning of "life taken too soon"
• encountered in the wild, they're a bad juju, an indicator of a site of tragedy (such as mass murder) or a grave/memorial where someone was slain. the more, the worse. en masse in the wild, they're also a sign of the end times (this is also inspired by mcsm, given that the wither storm is essentially the apocalypse)
• given at funerals and memorials for people who were murdered/executed/assassinated/killed intentionally by another person
• in most other contexts, giving a wither rose to someone is a threat of violence, accusing the other person of being violent, or "i wish you die".
  for wishing death on the other person, it's specifically wishing that they die violently.
  for threatening violence, in diplomatic situations, giving a wither rose can be tantamount to a declaration of war (also pairs with the irl symbolism of white flags indicating surrender)

i had a video in my tabs about real flower language that i had paused intentionally waiting to watch until i was done writing down my thoughts on minecraft flower language because i didnt want to accidentally draw on a biased opinion/thought based on real world flower languauge

i actually have an old ass rhyme i put together for the meanings of shorter flowers, some of them are a little out there but i thought you might find this fun:

Lily of the Valley offers only empty threats
Trust itself is passed around in gift Azure Bluets,

Cornflower is practical; a lovely royal blue
Oxeye Daisy offered out to friendships made anew

Open eyes for understanding wanes on days they close.
A Poppy or a Torchflower for luck on later roads

Tulips for old lovers who you'd rather wander off
When kindling new fires offer Allium for their love.

And finally, a gift of suit for those beyond the grave
Dandelions and Blue Orchids will for them to stay.
