Being devoid of the necessary funds to take his family to Bermuda, Mr. Hardup decided to close the house and live indoors, thus giving the impression that he and his family were away spending their surplus income. Things would have been fine had not a burglar entered. When he learned the situation he refused to leave and there was Hardup between the devil and the deep sea. If he told the police the neighbors would know he was bluffing; if he didn't tell them the burglar would take everything he had. Things come alright in the end. But how? That's what makes the film.
