The narrative follows a young man named Jean, a petty thief in post-World War I Paris, who, in order to escape his pursuers, joins the French Foreign Legion and is sent on duty to Morocco. After learning about the tomb of Queen Kahina and the immense wealth within it, he attempts to rob the tomb.
