I love it when I am vehemently against an extremely predatory, wasteful, bloated, STUPID industry (such as advertising) and I get someone imagining the most smol uwu business possible to be like "what about this widdle barbershop ?"

idfk. like. clear signage, a webpage that describes the business and the services offered(you search 'barber near me' in a world where search engines are not plagued with fucking sponsored bullshit and are simply SEARCH ENGINES!), and word of mouth, is enough. this smol bean barber does NOT NEED to be taking out ads in the paper or putting up billboards, this barber does not NEED a 30 second tv spot, it does not NEED advertising aside from the literal sign on their building that says 'barber'

All of this thinking is based on the capitalist idea of a free market, of competition being good for business and the customer. Of businesses and the people running them literally needing to fight for your attention and your money anyway they can. I actually just want the person cutting my hair to focus on cutting hair and not fucking, how to coerce me into their business.

Yes the world is complicated and there are shades of gray, but this one is easy.
