Down Beat Bear ~ Tom and Jerry
With how hard the music score was going towards the end, this should have been the last T&J cartoon of the golden age (MGM produced 12 more T&J shorts after this one before shutting down their animation department). The actual final one (Tot Watchers) doesn’t end nearly as strong as this one.

This was one of the first movies that I got to see in theaters, so it holds a special place in my heart. The 3 main things I remember from the day I saw the movie on the big screen:
1. Standing in the lobby with the freshest smelling popcorn ever
2. Seeing this movie poster in the lobby:
3. The BOOMING sound of the choir during that opening shot:
I watched this movie several times in early 1997 when it came out on home video even though I was too young to fully understand the mature themes (to this day, this is movie is the most prominent example of “I can’t believe they got away with a G rating”). I drifted from this movie during my teens/early 20s, but decided to rewatch it during the 2020 lockdown (along with the other Disney Renaissance movies) and circled back to loving it. It’s currently in my top 5 of favorite animated Disney Canon films.
“Either you print it just the way I draw it or I quit” is so savage.

He not preaching he's venting 😢
GODDAMN! 💀
When I bought this DVD for my Ocean Dub DBZ collection a couple weeks ago, it was still only $20.

According to Greg Weisman, the gargoyles equivalent of kissing is to touch each other’s hair.
So technically, Goliath was the first to kiss Elisa, and she responded with the human equivalent of kissing. That honestly thrills me.
What is your favorite Sylvester design?
i feel like Kitty Kornered is a cheat of an answer for some reason? but easily Kitty Kornered's design. LOVE the yellow eyes, and i know the absence of the red nose is potentially jarring but i think there's a great harmony with the colors of his design. black white and yellow, simple and good and unified
for a more sustainable answer though, probably McKimson's '40s Sylvester. he looks so schleppy and i love when Sylvester is just a giant loser, and i think McKimson's more slovenly design embraces that well. this is definitely a guy who spits all the time when he talks and has a kid who puts a bag over his head all the time. still lovable though but just the right amount of Funny Looking. i'm REALLY sad that this design wasn't used longer
