I wish there were fics about Jin Ling navigating the Jin Sect. Yeah I get the whole "junior quartet" friendship appeal but what about his Sect? The entire Koi Tower was under Jin Guangyao's thumb before his death. His followers must be scrambling for power now. It is a nest of vipers. It would make for a good psychological thriller sort of fic.

Will Jin Ling take his shushu's route of covering up with smiles, rule Koi Tower with open fierceness like his jiujiu or carve his own path? No doubt he would be a very good sect leader, he was raised by the two best ones. But who shall he trust? Any drink could be poisoned, any cousin could carry daggers hidden in their sleeves, any hand could accept money dealt under the table...

Everyone says that when Jiang Fengmian and Madam Yu tell Wei Wuxian to take care of Jiang Cheng it's because they don't think of him as their son, like they do Jiang Cheng.

Honestly, it depends on how you interpret it. For Jiang Cheng, whose parents both compared him and deemed him lesser to Wei Wuxian, it would be confirmation that he can't take care of himself and needs to rely on his brother. For Wei Wuxian, it would be confirmation that despite Jiang Fengmian favouring him, he was never family in the first place.

I interpret it as the first one for Jiang Fengmian and a mix of both for Madam Yu. She loves her son and hates Wei Wuxian but she constantly thinks of Wei Wuxian better than her son. She tells Wei Wuxian not only to care for him because she loves him but all but also because she doesn't think him capable. Jiang Fengmian loves his son, but he also loves Wei Wuxian as his own as well (might love him more than JC tbh). He placed this responsibility not only because he doesn't think Jiang Cheng to be capable, but also because he trusts Wei Wuxian the most and thinks he can take care of himself just fine. I'm sure if he realised the impact his words had on Wei Wuxian he would have changed them.

3 am thoughts keep me up for crack scenarios where JC's Spiders and sect members bust in and save the day at the temple and tie everyone up and bring them to Lotus Pier.

Then JC is like "I don't want A-Ling's sect to be in disaster if JGY is found out" and just.. keeps everyone in his basement dungeon. Like everyone. NHS, JGY, LXC, LWJ, WWX.. and WWX is like "How could you??" And JC makes sure to secure NHS cos he kinda already knows the basic gist of what JGY did to NMJ (but not the rest, boy that was a surprise) before the temple because JGY isn't very careful or quiet near child!JL when he talks to NMJ's head in his chambers 😀 ("You thought you could fucking look down on me, Nie Mingjue? Look at you now!")

And JL is sad about this but at least his Xiao-shushu is still alive! Then he gets busy trying to paint it as a tragedy like.. "Oh no the temple collapsed! So many leaders died! My Xiao-shushu is dead! My Jiujiu is severely hurt! I'm so alone and vulnerable!" (Jiujiu is busy weeding out Nie spies and JGY supporters) Young Mistress's A+ Melodramatic Acting™.

And JC probably like.. dismantles WN and NMJ and keeps them in boxes or something.

LWJ is furious but LXC is all "I deserve this.. this is a better punishment than seclusion 😭😭.."

This definitely wouldn't happen lmaoooo but like JC dealing with the problem by putting it in the basement and ignoring it

Post canon, I doubt Jin Ling would remain Bestest Of Friends™ with Lan Jingyi and Lan Sizhui (even if he does meet them on nighthunts n things), especially when he becomes a Sect Leader and becomes more aware.

Not only does Lan Wangji mistreat Jin Ling (silencing him and stuff) but he's also disrespected Jiang Cheng for 13 years and even more so after Wei Wuxian's resurrection (ancestral hall, fighting) and then on top of that I highly doubt Jin Ling would trust Wei Wuxian (even if he likes him, because I think JC will explain his side of the story to JL- my personal hc is that they never keep secrets frm each other after the temple fiasco). He's also seen how reckless Wei Wuxian is and how little he and Lan Wangji care or think about reputation, politics and even loyalty.

And Wen Ning. Even if Jing Ling forgives him for killing his father, because he was not in control at that time, (he's conflicted abt it in the books) will he be comfortable around him at all? How will he be able to trust Wen Ning not to lose control again? And what about how he revealed the Golden Core transfer to Jiang Cheng? Jiang Cheng would also obviously not tolerate Wen Ning because on top of those insults, he most likely saw Jin Zixuan's body! The fucking hole in it! That would traumatize anyone!

On the Lan side, Lan Jingyi and Lan Sizhui obviously like Lan Wangji, favour Wen Ning because he's important to Lan Sizhui and his past and be more sympathetic to Wei Wuxian in general. Lan Wangji has also most definitely influenced their opinion of Jiang Cheng over the years. I don't know what exactly they think of Lan Wangji's treatment of Jin Ling, but I highly doubt they would confront him about it because it seems like apart from the maiming of the elders 13 years ago, the Lan Sect generally let Hanguang-Jun get away with anything. But no way is he going to let the slights to his uncle slide. Jiang Cheng is Jin Ling's only family. Not only that, wouldn't it look bad politically? To appear to be hanging around Lan Wangji and his wards when he blatantly disregards Jin Ling's primary caretaker and closest ally?

Also would Jiang Cheng suffer through all of that humiliation for 13 years and then the ancestral hall violation without demanding solid compensation from the Lan? I think Lan Qiren would make him take hefty compensation even if he didn't ask. And the Lan will obviously not be happy with that arrangment.

So yeah, I don't think Jin Ling would remain very good friends with the Lans, but still be cordial and have a good enough relationship with them (the Lan juniors are definitely not bad people, but the past is just complicated and people do be biased). I think he's most likely to stick to Jins and Jiangs, especially the Jin now that he's their Sect Leader and obviously he has friends in the Jiang Sect, he's spent a good amount of his childhood there (no way is he gonna interact with the Nie outside bare minimum lmao).

Re-read all mzds books after years.. so much has changed now that I'm older. I used to be such a Wangxian fan... I have a lot of opinions of certain characters now

Jiang Cheng is soo good honestly. If my brother did all that shit, I would have cut his fucking head off and then immediately killed myself. If my entire family and sect were murdered except for a baby and a mass murdering brother, I would have gone insane. I would not have raised an entire child and brought my sect above the heights it was before on my own. The ancestral hall scene? Man, I would have lost it. Did I judge Jiang Cheng for his, frankly, atrocious words to Wei Wuxian in that scene? Yes I did. But if I went through all that trauma and I was in his place? Nothing would have stopped me from unleashing the full wrath of Yunmeng Jiang on those three.

Wei Wuxian is precious too. No, I don't hate him. He is a naive, rude, brash, impulsive but good-natured and intelligent child who never really had to face the consequences of his actions and the first time he had to, it hit him like a semi truck.

Threatening Wen Chao led to the Sect getting destroyed. Don't tell me that it didn't, the Cloud Recesses wasn't decimated to the very last shidi. Lotus Pier wouldn't have been razed to the ground if Wen Chao didn't go crying to daddy about it.

The surgery on Jiang Cheng. Yes, Jiang Cheng was ready to die. Who wouldn't have been, in that case? They destroyed his core, whipped him bloody, and probably did much, much worse things to him. But Wei Wuxian shouldn't have made Wen Qing perform the surgery! Fifty percent chance she said! What if Jiang Cheng died? Then what would be the point?

Running around drunk and playing with dead bodies while Jiang Cheng worked his ass off. Choosing the Wens over Jiang Cheng and their Sect who needed him. Getting Jin Zixuan and then Jiang Yanli and thousands of innocent people killed. While I don't completely blame Wei Wuxian for all of his actions after the core transfer- he was probably going insane from demonic cultivation and no core- he could have made some much better decisions.

Jiang Fengmian is complete trash- so is Yu Ziyuan, honestly- and deserves so much hell. While he was a major cause of his son's insecurities and will probably haunt Jiang Cheng for the rest of his life, the person he screwed over most is Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian never learnt his impulsive and brash decisions not only impact him but also the sect and who was the reason? Jiang Fengmian. He doted on him, let him run freely, and hand-waved any concerns, all because of what? He saw his parents in the boy? Did he even love Wei Wuxian for who he was or rather who his parents were?

Lan Wangji is just.. ugh. His only personality is "Wei Ying". That's it. That's all there is to it. Wei Wuxian kills Lan disciples and so many innocents and the Lans rightfully turn against him? Who cares? Lan Wangji is just going to turn against his own sect!

33 lashes, 3 years of seclusion and 13 years of "mourning"- Jiang Cheng mourned everyone he's ever known and he rebuilt his sect and raised a sect heir- he gets back together with his love like nothing happened. Like he didn't injure 33 sect members and get punished for it for the very same man who didn't even reciprocate at that time! He even named Lan Sizhui- Sizhui : to recollect, long for- after his dead crush? They weren't even together before he died! His treatment of Jiang Cheng, Jin Ling and anyone who was rude to his precious "Wei Ying" was abysmal.

I think, post-canon, Wei Wuxian should not stay with Lan Wangji. He should either return to Lotus Pier or travel the world on his own. He shouldn't marry and stay with Lan Wangji in Cloud Recesses. With their rigid rules would Wei Wuxian even survive there?

He is honestly so young. Everyone else had 13 years to move on and adapt, but everything is still fresh in his mind. Lan Wangji is the only person he didn't really hurt with his actions, yes, but he shouldn't get married so early with how young and traumatized he is! Let him live first!

Wei Wuxian misses Lotus Pier. He misses and loves his family, Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling. He has the world to see. He has actions to repent and families to apologise- what else can he do, really- to. The only thing in Lan Wangji's life is "Wei Ying". Wei Wuxian should not stay with a person who insists he is innocent when he's not.

My friend and I called him this after watching the movie thrice.... consecutively.
