We hate cops because they're a weapon for enforcing the state's interests through violence. Like, they kill & imprison people. The antis don't have a Quite Literal boot on your neck please god log off or talk to a Black person or something
To be SO fair like really generous there is something to be said for unlearning the habit of figuratively "policing" other people especially in the context of, like, not being a fucking snitch, "kill the cop in your head" etc etc, but can we not completely lose the plot re: what cops Are
Hi! I'd like to point out that ACAB is a generalisation that doesn't take into account the different jobs within the police force. My father is an ex-cop in NSW, and his dream job was crash investigation (of which he was in for several years), and even had to do several crash related stuff whilst he was in general duties due to the lack of people in crash investigation. He made sure to check through everything and get as much information as he could, but generalising that 'All Cops Are Bastards' is plain wrong. He didn't go to crash investigations with body parts strewn across roads, or an incident late at night with black ice that killed two sisters who he was heartbroken for, just to be called a bastard by people who generalise. Yes, police have more power than the average person, but as a queer person, it feels the same as calling all queers pedophiles. It's incorrect and a tiny minority, of which seems to be massive at times due to the incidents that are heavily publicised. If my father, as an ex cop who retired due to PTSD and other issues is a bastard, then why did he make sure to capture some beauty like a sunset in the background of his crash investigation photos when he could? He didn't have to, wasn't told to, but he did it so in court where he provided evidence, not everything he would show would be suffering. He did his best, was a kind man where he could be, and even asked people if he could pray over them for their loss, saying he was religious and even if they didn't believe, he only had one person in his 32 years in the police force who said no.
It's people who generalise, and don't see others as humans that makes the situations worse. Not all cops are bastards. It's a small few who get that power and abuse it, and it's saddening because I hate seeing posts like this where people generalise a massive group of people. I know that in Australia, our First Nations people have higher deaths in custody, and police brutality does exist here, but not all police are evil. He has spoken about how some police would rile up some drunkards occasionally after they say a thing or two to get them to snap back so they can arrest them, and he would be disappointed. Not all cops are bastards, because if my father was, he wouldn't have joined the police force, because my father loves everyone. Even as a Christian man, he doesn't care about race or gender identity, and he understands that some people have a different religion, and that's okay, but he still loves them all and wants the best for everyone.

Look. I understand your point of view, I genuinely try to be as open minded as possible, but the specific reasoning for my phrasing there is because hate is too strong. My father doesn't hate people. He didn't hate his coworkers, but at times their opinions clashed. This was back in the late 80s, where he wasn't in a position to speak up due to his low rank within the force at the time. He has mentioned that it was something that some police would do, because there was a time where police were paid extra depending on how many people they arrested, but he always said those officers were idiots, who he disliked. They wanted to do something fun for them, and get paid more. My father jokingly mentioned recently that the traffic control people who hold the signs up earned significantly more than he did, and he should have gone into that instead, but he didn't. Policing wasn't his first career choice. He was a motor mechanic for a long time beforehand. He didn't go in to harm people, and I simply wanted to point out how generalisations do more harm than good. I may not believe in some of the things he does at times, but that's what being human is. We learn from others, and it's a choice if you decide to believe me or not.
I'm not trying to say that all cops are great and amazing, but that there are some that don't do it for the power. He wants to help people, all his life he has wanted to. I understand this may be controversial to you, but not everyone in a specific job is evil. Your tone is condensing where I try to inform. I didn't just write that out because I wanted to say 'all lives matter, treat cops well too!' but to say that cops are people too. I don't watch my father have panic attacks and shut down as he tries not to cry when things get really difficult, and he doesn't approve of ICE or how America is going right now, but he also knows that none of us in our family are in a position to stop what is happening. We live in a rural place, barely making a difference if at all. I just wanted to bring awareness that not everyone who chooses to be a cop is evil. He joined to help people, and if you choose to dismiss that and believe that I am either taking this the wrong way or lying, then so be it. I'm not fully sure if your tone is meant to be as condescending as it is, as I am autistic and tone is difficult for me via writing, but if it is meant to be, then simply, sorry that my response by stating something I have grown up around and wanted to state made you so upset by clashing with your views. I've been there, but hate doesn't do anything other than make the world worse. I'm a firm believer in black lives matter, and that there is a lot of discrimination, but we can only fix it through finding solutions rather than yelling things that are not completely true. Anyhow, I genuinely wish you a good day, and even if you choose to respond again, I would happily talk to you about specific things that prove that not all cops are bastards. <3

With israeli news outlets and the literal mossad twitter account aligning themselves with the protesters, it feels like america is on a rampage to execute regime change quickly. And before anyone comes for me im not suggesting the original protesters are all mossad agents but i know that the entire reason they were in the streets in the first place is a result of sanctions debilitating the economy on purpose can we just remember that? A labourer from West Bengal was lynched in Odisha's Sambalpur on Wednesday (December 24) evening, reportedly by attackers who accused him and a few other workers of being undocumented migrants from Bangladesh.
Thirty-year-old Juel Sheikh had stopped at a tea stall with three other migrant workers when a group of people accused them of being undocumented Bangladeshi migrants and demanded to see their identity proof. They produced valid documents but the group beat Sheikh to death, the Hindustan Times reported, citing police sources. The three other labourers reportedly escaped.
However, on Thursday, the New Indian Express cited inspector general of police Himanshu Lal as saying that Sheikh's murder was “related to sudden provocation” and not a case of “targeting anyone”.
The newspaper, which identified Sheikh as hailing from West Bengal's Murshidabad, cited police sources as saying that six people were arrested in connection with the lynching as of Thursday afternoon. It also noted that police were yet to provide clarity on why the assailants allegedly demanded to see the labourers' IDs.
Local media indicated that allegations of beedi theft were also involved in the incident.
In a statement on Thursday, the Trinamool Congress alleged that Sheikh's lynching “is the direct outcome” of a “sustained campaign against Bengalis” by the BJP, which is in power in Odisha.
“For years, BJP leaders have deliberately branded Bengali-speaking Indians as infiltrators, outsiders and suspects. That poisonous narrative has now reached the streets, where anyone feels empowered to act as immigration officers and executioners,” Bengal's ruling party wrote.
Sheikh's lynching occurs days after Chhattisgarh native Ramnarayan was beaten to death in Kerala's Palakkad district by a group of people who accused him of theft. In a video of the incident that took place on December 17, Ramnarayan, who had moved to the southern state in search of work, was reportedly heard being asked by his assailants if he was from Bangladesh and being called Bangladeshi.
Kerala police have arrested seven people in connection with Ramnarayan's lynching. Reports cited police as saying they would invoke provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act after verifying that Ramnarayan was Dalit.
The Sambalpur killing also takes place against the backdrop of growing prejudice in India targeting people deemed to be ‘undocumented Bangladeshis’, as well as a spate of deportations of such individuals, including those with pending appeals and some who were subsequently returned to India.
Exactly this. I was unaware that a lynching had happened at the hands of a mob in Kerala , cause my whole feed for the last two days, has been about the lynching of Dipu Das, in Bangladesh. India wants to protest for a Hindu man in Bangladesh, while sanctioning murder of its own citizens. This country is full of fascists who are braying for blood, and wanting a society modeled after Israel. I do not know where we are going from here on. What's the future for a country, where the mass politics is of dehumanizing an entire community. You can't escape it- it's on your FYP, it's in the media, it's in movies, in books, in universities, in your neighborhood, at work, amongst family members, at a random fucking park with BJP rallies taking place over the next street. You know all this within 10 years- like sure, the hindutvadi particles have been long present in Indian politics- but this level of dehumanization and taking pride in it...like FUCK!

Ambedkar was forced to resign as Law Minister because Hindu conservatives sabotaged the Hindu Code Bill, revealing how violently the so called guardians of tradition resist equality. Hindutva ideology has historically stood on the side of oppression, not reform, and these reformers challenged it at immense personal cost.

No I am not happy. Like a normal fucking person, I think it is very sad that my land is being communalised by bigots, as I mentioned in my last post but I assume you cannot read bangla.

I have to assume that this must have made you happy, since your immediate response to a tragedy was to come running to my inbox assuming I'd have a similar reaction. Because you get happy at the death and suffering of muslims and others to deem your enemy, you think I must think the same as you. After all, every accusation by a genocidal majority is a confession.
Now that I think of it, isn't it weird that this lynching of a muslim man in Bihar, which happened only a week ago, was barely reported in Indian media and there was hardly any talk of it, but the lynching of a hindu man in Bangladesh has caused an uproar in the country?
I hate to go into this whataboutery but ya'll literally force me.
Again, I hate that I have to do this because every death is equally tragic and suffering cannot be compared on an axis, but.
When muslim men are lynched in India, not only do government officials and godi media houses completely ignore it, but the government even takes action to protect the perpetrators.
And this is exactly what I mean when I say islamophobia in India is state-sponsored.
I hope Mohammad Athar Hussain, Muhammad Akhlaq, Dipu Chandra Das and everyone else who has been killed in communalist hatred get justice and their murderers get their due.
It's the way the government, and the ministers of this country will spin every tragedy to further their own agenda and politics of religious fundamentalism. Dipu Das, a Hindu man's lynching in Bangladesh over charges of blasphemy, is already being used by the hindutvadi mob to call for expulsion of all "Bangladeshi aliens"- and I know for a fact that they mean every Bengali who is visibly Muslim or actually scratch that, they believe every Bengali Muslim to be from Bangladesh. You know I am surprised they even had the word "lynching" in their vocabulary, considering how often they brush away incidents of lynching in India. Just last week a Muslim man was lynched in Bihar.
I am genuinely scared. I am scared about the rising trend of religious fundamentalism in South Asia. I am scared about what is happening in Bangladesh and for the minority population in Bangladesh. And I am scared for every Bengali Muslim here in India, who are both at home here in West Bengal and away from home, working in other states. I don't know what is going to happen in the coming days. Everything is so bleak fuck.
